Fab Friday

I'm linking up with Laura from The Everyday Joys today for Fab Friday.

  1. I don't want to be too vocal about this for fear of ticking off God and taking away the weather...but yesterday and today has been great in the weather department. There are signs of spring coming!
  2. Went for a run this morning with some friends and it just put me in a really great mood! 
  3. I'm getting close to being done with this round of finals. 
  4. I mentioned this yesterday, but I LOVE Caroline Manzo's book. I agree with so much of what she says.
  5. Easter is on Sunday!! 
  6. I really feel like I am starting to come into my own in running and it makes me so happy that all of the hard work is paying off. 
  7. I love listening to my hometown radio station. I know I've already said this, but sometimes the internet is really great! I kinda felt like I was in high school again with the radio blaring while I was in the shower. 
  8. Have y'all heard Little Big Town's song, Tornado? It's so fun! It also makes me think of Oklahoma. 
  9. It is baseball season! I am really looking forward to going to a Michigan baseball/softball game, with some sunflower seeds, flip-flops, a hat, and flip-flops! 
  10. Checking things off my to-do list! It just gives me a thrill!

What I am enjoying today.

  • All the Blissdom posts this week. I know it is silly, but I like seeing people connecting and also I LOVE learning. I still have been thinking lots about what I have read so far. 
  • my running group. I seriously love this group of women. They don't know how much they mean to me. 
  • The sunshine! We hit 49 degrees here today in the frozen tundra and it was so good for my soul! 
  • Friday Night Lights! I do have to admit that I am a little more homesick than usual and I think part of it has to do with the fact that all the characters on the show talk and sound like family from home.  
  • An invitation we received today for Easter Sunday! I love Easter Sunday almost more than Christmas celebrations at church, but what I love most is being with family and good food! One of my friends from law school has invited us for Easter service and dinner with her family and I can't wait! 
Listening to: the Lakes Country 102.1 radio station online. (It's my hometown radio station!

Reading: The SheReadsTruth Holy Week Devotional and Caroline Manzo's Let Me Tell You Something. I love both a ton.

Working on:  A Cover letter, my resume, and an appellate brief re-write. Yay law school!

What is on my heart lately.

I didn't go to Blissdom, but I really wish I would have. However, if you want a good re-cap, click right here.

One of the biggest things that shot straight through to my heart is that multi-tasking is a myth. I know that several times a day I will have my iPhone right beside me, with the tv on, and I've also got an episode of whatever tv show it is I am watching.

This happens ALL! THE! TIME!

And y'all it doesn't stop when my husband walks in the door or when I need to be focused on homework.

It is like my mind is constantly on white noise mode and I am not giving my one hundred percent to anything. Instead, it is split up between multiple things and things and people fall through the cracks. Lately, it has been my husband who is falling through the cracks.

And I finally apologized for it today. Honestly, I just felt like a big old jerk.

I hate that it has happened, but there is a reason for it. There always is.

A few weeks ago we announced that we are staying in Michigan. Deep down, I know that this is the best choice for us right now.

And one of the reasons that I know that it is right for us is because it is the hard choice.

It is the choice that we are going to learn the most from and it is the choice that is going to push us and change us.

Most importantly, it is the choice that is going to make us rely on God.

But Y'ALL that hard part. It is so VERY hard.

The hard part means we won't be back home with our families. We will miss out on my sister and brother's junior and possibly senior year of high school. We will miss out on our nieces and nephews growing up, participating in sports, and 4-H.  I will miss out on my sister going out on her first date.

The hard part means it is a possibility that our parents won't be around all the time when our babies are first born. We both know that in our hearts, Michigan isn't a forever thing for us, but still when I've dreamed about kids, it has always been with parents close by.

The hard part means we are going to have to make friends all over again because the majority of the friends that are in school with me are moving after graduation back home. And the ones that are staying here most likely won't be in the same arena (law wise) and also none of them are in the same place in life that Brandon and I are. And that makes it hard to connect with people sometimes. It just does.

The biggest hard part is that it also has a lot of unknowns with it. 

And so I've been sad about all of it. I'm mourning this lost time in a sense.

I've been hiding out with the white noise because if I have a thousand and one things going on, then I don't have time to be sad and work through my emotions and process. The only time that I've let myself think about it entirely is when I am running. Running is my time to think out the hard things and to just pray about it.  I think that is why I have been running so quickly lately.

Unfortunately, the grieving process can be all consuming at times and often it strikes you when it isn't convenient, hence the hiding.

I realized that I'm missing out on what is going on right now. I also am missing out on giving my one hundred percent to the people and things (schoolwork, since finals are looming) that count. I also am missing out on what God has for me specifically through this time because I am so plugged in.

I don' t think that I am going to step away from social media entirely, but I am going to take a more organized approach to it. Because it can wait. Bonding with my husband (and other family members for that matter!) and making good grades and taking care of my body and being healthy cannot.

My Strut Song

Have y'all read Erin from BlueEyedBride? Well if not, you're missing out!

Tonight on her blog she asked, What’s your strut song? 

She explained the strut song like this:

"You know the one. You’re walking through the grocery store, with your baby in the buggy and you can hear a rhythm in your head. It puts a bounce in your step. 

Or you’re walking into a day of work and think, 'This would be so much more fun if when I entered the building, my theme song would come on and I could strut across the room.'"

Hands down, my strut song is Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys.

With the weight loss and running milestones, I often get stuck in the grind of it all. You know I get into staying focused and accomplishing the task in front of me. As a result, I don't come up for air or let myself celebrate. This song does that for me. It empowers me. 

And without fail, I always want to belt out the chorus and I walk a little taller after hearing it. (Walking taller is a big deal when you're 5'4'' on a good day people.)

An honorable mention and the reason why I want to run to oldies and classic rock for my half marathon this summer is Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress) by The Hollies.

This song makes me think that I actually look cool when I air-guitar it in the car. It also just pumps me up when I'm on a run.

Healthy Train Tuesday

Healthy Train Tuesday

This Week's Loss: 0.8 pounds
Total Loss: 70 pounds!!
Starting Weight: 239 pounds
Current Weight: 169 pounds

What I craved this week: I drank diet cokes of all kinds this week like it was my job because as of Sunday I gave up Coke...again. But this time it's for half-marathon training! I expect lots of tylenol in the next few days for caffeine headaches.

What I noticed was different about my body: Even though I didn't lose as much weight as I would have liked this week, I am noticing that I am faster when I run. While this may be early, I really do think that cross-training is making a difference for me. I feel better when I run.

Workouts I did this week:  
  • Ran two times (including a run that was 6 miles with a 10:29 pace!!)
  • Did the Shred with Jillian Michaels six times.
Personal Goal(s) for this week:
  • Homework. Homework. And more homework.
  • Run three times.
  • The Shred all 7 days. 
  • Text my points every day to my sister.
Favorite Quote for this week:
I know I've posted this already, but it really has been quite the winter this year.
And so I'm using the winter to work on my body some more.

What I’m looking forward to:
  • Having projects completed and the semester over! 
Frame of Mind: I am determined to make good choices for the next three weeks. I am allowing myself a free weekend while I'm in Arizona next month. I plan to have an In and Out burger with the fries and also Sonic. Amen.

Monday Mumblings...

I mumble on Mondays. It's a thing. You get used to it.

  • I ran 6 miles in just a little over an hour yesterday. I am seriously jazzed about this.
  • Sometimes, a person just needs to sit down and crank out some work with the phone put away and only the hum drum of the dryer going in the house. 
  • Sugar's farts might be the most vile farts of all time. Today she stunk herself out and tried to hide under the covers. I pulled the covers off and made her suffer along with me.
  • April is next week. HOLY COW.
  • I have a hair appointment next week. Amen.
  • I need to sell some of my Vera Bradley pieces. There isn't any point to hold onto the stuff I don't use. (My mother and sisters are in shock that I said that. My dad, husband and brother all just virtually high fived each other.)
  • My grandpa is in the hospital with chest pains and shortness of breath. He has type two diabetes as well. Prayers are appreciated. Also, this news made me really thankful that my parents have been on the healthy train this year. I know that everyone passes away eventually, but taking care of your health early on and for a consistent basis can help prevent issues like this. It is just another reason why being healthy is so important. 
  • Is anyone else as confused as I am about Kim Kardashian's maternity style?
  • Alicia Keys's Girl on Fire is my running jam. 
  • Watching Remember the Titans tonight for half-marathon music inspiration. Any other movie recommendations?

A Post about blogging. Blech.

On thinking before hitting "Publish"...

I've been thinking about this post for awhile. It's just been something that has been rolling around in my head.

Before I hit publish on every post, I have to think, "What would my future clients think if they found my blog?"

It's why I might seem reserved at times.

But I have to think those things. It's why I will probably never post a before and after in my bra and workout shorts. It's why I don't post bare belly pictures when I'm finally pregnant.

Yes, this is my little place in the world for me to write out my thoughts, but it comes at a price. I have to remain professional. I don't mind this at all. I want to be an attorney.

But sometimes it is hard. I wonder if it has cost me connection with people. I would be lying if I didn't say that I don't get caught up in the "blogging world" and get concerned about how readers will receive a piece I write. Because I do. It is the nature of the beast. I think we all do.

I want to share my weight loss story with people. But I also don't have a ton of time to put into advertising my blog so others know because of law school. I think sometimes people don't understand that.

I don't know if this made sense, but it is just something that has been rolling around in my head.

Why My Twitter and Insta' names aren't the same...

Did you know that my twitter name and IG name aren't the same?

Yeah, when I got on twitter I didn't have a blog. So I made it short and sweet. Then I had a blog and tried to change it to my blog name. But The Twitter is lame and wouldn't let me because it was too long.

My twitter name is @samkbt and my Insta' name is @therubyturtlehippie.

Yes I am the same person. A lot of people don't make this connection on a regular basis, so I thought I'd clear things up a bit.

Guilty Pleasures

I was inspired by last night's episode of Glee. (Yes I know on Twitter I've sworn the show off, but I've still been watching holding out hope. )

So according to Merriam Webster's, a guilty pleasure is something one enjoys and considers pleasurable despite feeling guilt for enjoying it. The "guilt" involved is sometimes simply fear of others discovering one's lowbrow or otherwise embarrassing tastes, such as campy styles of entertainment. Fashion, video games, music,[1] films,[2] and junk food can be examples of guilty pleasures.

Fashion Trend Neon. Neon. Neon. I know that this trend will be gone next season, but y'all I cannot help myself. It is in my closet like it's my latest job.

Music Abba, specifically the music used for Mamma Mia. Seriously, I could listen to the soundtrack for days on end.

TV Show Real Housewives of New Jersey. I realize how ridiculous these women are and yet I tune in every season. I have been obsessively checking to see when the new season starts. And, of course, I've pre-ordered Caroline Manzo's book!

Films I happen to take myself way too seriously when it comes to the film industry. (My sisters and brother are shaking their head in agreement with this statement right now.)


One of my very favorite guilty pleasure films is Britney Spears's film debut, Crossroads.

Junk Food Bacon cheese fries with ranch. Amen. Oh yeah, and chips and white queso.

Because firsts are fun!

I saw my pal, Laura do this little ditty and it looked fun, so here I am!

  1. First thing you do in the morning? Grumble about getting up. I brush my teeth first thing, without fail. My momma is the same way.
  2. First thing you do when you get home from work? Go to the bathroom. This applies whether I've been at work or not. If I have just come home from anywhere, I have to hit the bathroom.
  3. First kiss? I was a week away from turning 15. It was during the Blair Witch Project. It was all kinds of awkward. I see this dude this summer. Should be interesting.
  4. First home? First home with my parents was South of my hometown. First home with Brandon was across from my high school football stadium. That little house was a lot of fun.
  5. First car? 1994 Chevy Camaro. Her name is Poison Ivy and I still have her. My daddy takes care of her for me in Oklahoma. We are saving her for car shows some day.
  6. First thing you wanted to be when you grew up? The President of the United States
  7. First choice beverage? If I am not drinking pop, then I love a good unsweetened tea with extra ice from Mickey D's. If I am drinking pop, I'm obsessed with vanilla coke zero more than I should be.
  8. First choice dessert? There is nothing like a dip-top in a cup from Southside Drive-In in my hometown. But since I can't have that all the time, I am in love with the dark chocolate truffles that Harry and David's makes.
  9. First choice of restaurant? Speedway Grill, Muskogee Oklahoma. Hands down, the BEST burger in the entire world is there.
  10. First major purchase? My Chevy Monte Carlo named Mary Carlotta. We got her after college.
  11. First job? Filing clerk for a dealership.
  12. First time you flew on a plane? I was 1 when I flew to see my grandparents with my momma. The first flight I remember was when I was 5 and my sister flew with me and my mom that time.
  13. First real "big girl" job? I used to work for a prosecutor.

Wednesday is "Spring" Day.

Per my pal, Wikipedia...

Spring is one of the four conventional temperate seasons, following winter and preceding summer. The specific definition of the exact timing of "spring" varies according to local climate, cultures and customs. At the spring equinox, days are close to 12 hours long with day length increasing as the season progresses. Spring and "springtime" refer to the season, and also to ideas of rebirth, rejuvenation, renewal, resurrection, and regrowth.

Yeah, about that.


I've tried, really I have to be positive about the weather. I mean we are staying here for a couple more years at least. So I've got to make my peace with it.

But for the love, Michigan!!! I don't want to see snow anymore.

I get it is standard in January and February. In fact, I actually happen to like it.

But this shiz that has been happening in the last few weeks can peace the heck outta here.

I need sunshine for my soul people. I am cranky right now and this is NOT a good thing. And do you know why I am cranky?


And all the people from home complaining about weather being in the 80s and wish they had my cold weather, can just shut it.


Because I promise if those very same people had been freezing their butts off for four almost 5 months straight, they would not say the same thing!

They probably would be cranky bordering on bitterness and rage about the fact that on the first day of spring you're expected to get snow. BECAUSE I KNOW I AM!!

I need to wear flip-flops, and eat chips and queso with a margarita in the middle of the day. My days are numbered in this department. I will soon live in a world where I don't get to wear flip flops during regular business hours. I also won't be able to enjoy said patios in the middle of the day during a business week because I'll have to work. You know have a real person job.

So I don't feel like it is too much to ask that spring show a little sooner than usual this year. I want to live it up in this department.

And let's be honest, I'm tired of running in the cold dang it!!

I'm basically a begging woman at this point on this issue. I need whoever is in charge of the weather up there in heaven to help me out a bit. Pretty please with a cherry on top!

Healthy Train Tuesday: Thirty Days of Commitment

Healthy Train Tuesday 
This Week's Loss: .6 pounds
Total Loss: 69.2 pounds
Starting Weight: 239 pounds
Current Weight: 169.8 pounds
Pounds to goal weight: 19.8 pounds

What I craved this week: A big ole' piece of cake with a lot of icing. I never got it, but I did get a whole lot of crap. I have decided that when I drink all I want to do is eat like crap. This isn't good for my body. It also isn't good for weight loss. I won't have to worry about it though because I don't drink during half-training. I really am glad to see this loss still because of all the crap I ate this weekend.

What I noticed was different about my body: My mind has been going through a lot of changes lately. I have been reading the Made to Crave devotion plan on the Bible app with my sister Jess and friend Jessika. This has been making me think about what I put into my workouts. I have just been doing the workouts to get them in, you know, just another thing to do on my checklist. But this devotion has been making me consider the effort I put into my workouts and also the food into my mouth. Is it worth it?

Workouts I did this week: Two runs and the first day of The Shred.

Personal Goals for this week: 
  • I am starting 30 days of Commitment to the Shred. I have got to start working on my arms seriously and I think that Jillian Michaels is a good place to start. I will still be running because, hello, I'm obsessed with it. But this is cross training which is very important to half or full marathon training. So I will be doing it every day of the week this week and for 30 days total. I even made a checklist for the next 30 days. 
  • I want to run three times this week. 
  • And I'm texting my point amounts to my sister all week too.
  • I also want to lose 2-3 pounds this week.
Favorite Quote for this week: "The hardest step for a runner is the first one out the door."

What I’m looking forward to:
  • Starting my half-marathon training! I really am focused when I am training and I can't wait to feel that way again.
  • Getting rid of the cokes. I know I crave more sugar when I drink them and I need to get it out of my system. 

Frame of Mind: Losing weight is a daily commitment. That is something that I am learning each and every day. I have to fight for my choices sometimes on a minute by minute basis. And when I hold myself accountable with myself and my sister, it makes all the difference.

Monday Mumblings....

I mumble on Mondays. It's a thing. You get used to it.

  • What time of year is England typically warm?
  • Sheldon Cooper makes my heart smile. 
  • I have five projects due in the next 4 weeks. If I can get rid of one project, the rest is a cake walk in comparison. This one project is also the least interesting to me. It's also the most time consuming. Isn't that how it always works?
  • I own a Minnie Mouse binder. It is to be taken very seriously. 
  • The snow is starting to piss me off. 
  • Katie Holmes as Jackie Kennedy is one of my favorites. 
  • I liked all the foreshadowing in Oz, the Great and Powerful. And that's all I liked about the movie. I thought James Franco was a poor choice for the Wizard and I also thought that Mila Kunis was a poor choice as well. All the movie made me want to do was watch the original The Wizard of Oz to put that movie out of my mind. Hopefully Universal does a better job with Wicked. 
  • I start the training plan for my next half this Sunday.
  • I don't like BLTs. I like BELTs (bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato with a dash of tabasco).
  • My favorite Biggest Loser contestant this season was Lisa. She was an at-home contestant. She got her family on board and that is one of the biggest battles to overcome when losing weight. The rest of the contestants were a bunch of whiners.  
  • I'm doing the Shred for the next 30 days. Someone hold me.
  • Can someone explain the appeal of Tim Riggins to me other than his looks? (He's a character on Friday Night Lights.)
  • Also, I have Tami Taylor hair envy. And I love the Eric/Tami Taylor relationship on the show the most.

I just want to take the opportunity to say that hard work pays off! If you're struggling, remember that I have struggled too (I STILL STRUGGLE!) and it wasn't that long ago that I was only 20 pounds down.

The other weight loss picture I wanted to show you was one that my baby sister posted last night on the Insta! She posted how proud she was of us and that she looked up so much to both of us. Of course I teared up big time when I read it. I don't have kids, but part of why I am losing weight is so that I can have kids at a healthy weight and also so that I can keep up with them! In the mean time, on days I want to give up, Loren is a big motivator for me because I know she is watching as a big sister to see what I do and how I act. I hope that through this journey, she is learning that being healthy is what is important.

On becoming a Michigander...

Yes, you read that right.

Remember that big life decision that I've been vaguely talking about for the past weeks? Well, I can tell you the gist of it for now. Details are still developing and so there is still a part of this story that you won't know for now.

Brandon and I have decided that it is best for our family of four (canines count in this family!) to STAY in Michigan. 

When I wrote this post, I never imagined that #5 would include this. I thought it was going to be something like me jumping out of a plane. I also never imagined this decision would come so soon in the year.

There are still a lot of unknowns. However, I can honestly say that I am more at peace about the unknown that is Michigan, than the known that is Oklahoma.

Plus those unknowns will work themselves out now that we are not in limbo about where we should live.

That being said, I am and will always be an Oklahoman. I am so VERY proud to be from Oklahoma and from the South. (Yes, Oklahoma is southern and if you think otherwise, you're full of it. Also, I'm more than happy to prove you wrong.)  I love my state and the people in it, especially our families. The best food and people still are there and you can't convince me otherwise.

And it should be noted, we will go back to Oklahoma at some point, but for now, the chapter on Michigan is NOT closed for us.

I promise to keep y'all updated as more details develop.

That time we bought a $400 dryer sheet.

This post could be alternatively titled so many things.

For example:
  • I have no life and to top it off, my dog got sick. 
  • Cleaning up dog crap or any crap for that matter is NEVER glamorous. 
  • I have cried more this last week than I have in quite awhile.
  • A blog post about poop.
  • Poop. Poop. And more poop.
Here's the story...
On Thursday and Friday of last week, Sugar was picky with her food. This is VERY atypical for her. She doesn't miss meals and about jumps out of her skin when we feed her because she's so excited for food.

Her daddy also happens to give her human food when he shouldn't. So I just thought she was being picky pants.

Then Saturday morning rolled around and homegirl just wasn't herself. She was lethargic and she puked. So we got dressed quickly and took her to the emergency vet.

I don't know how normal people function or what that term even means, but when I'm in a stressful situation, I cry first and then I figure out what my plan is. Well it just so happens that I cried all the way to the vet and even while we were talking to the vet.

Because people this little vet trip was the icing on the top of the crap cake I had all last week. Or so I thought.

A little back story: School is stressful. It consumes my life. I have time for few things. Those things are school, Brandon, running, and my dogs. When you see me slacking on this blog which is on a regular basis it is because those other things take precedent over this blog. Do I write about crap times like this one often? No, because I want to remember the good. Plus, I have a time for the bad. I work out all the bad when I run. It's my cheap therapy. In addition, Brandon has a whole host of responsibilities himself. And if I don't get a comment on a blog or I write fluff posts for awhile it's because my marriage and school are more important. I won't apologize for living my life out the way I want to live it.

(Not really sure where that rant came from, but I feel like I have to justify how I choose to live on a regular basis and I'm really starting to get tired of it.)

Also, I'm getting a doctorate for crying out loud. It's like raising a child as far as I'm concerned. It consumes you. It's all you think about all the time. It gets priority over so many things. And unless you've got one or are getting one, you don't understand what I mean.

And to top it off, we are currently going through a situation that we can't talk about for personal reasons. (No I am NOT pregnant. Although I hear that I've been put "on watch.") This situation consumes me on a regular basis because it is BIG people. B.I.G.

Guess what? It's not something that I can figure out how to fix or make better.  It's just something that I have to sit and wait on God to deliver.

I am a total hot mess. I don't like being a hot mess. I like order and control. God is really working a number on me and Brandon. I know it. God knows it. Brandon knows it.

The point is that we are in the middle of the battle. God is fighting for us, but in the mean time he's working on us as well.

Back to Sugar Ann...

Turns out that little missy swallowed something she shouldn't have. And they wanted almost $2000 for her to stay overnight, but they weren't going to give her meds. Ummm, no. I don't have that kind of money. Cried about that too.

So she got some fluids under her skin and looked like a little camel when she was done. We got a nice vet bill of $400 and went home. I had yet another time commitment for school to fulfill so Brandon stayed home with her.

This blog post could also be titled, "I'm going to be a crazy mom who worries about her kids ALL THE TIME" because I texted Brandon like it was my job about her while I was gone.

What did she swallow by the way? A FLIPPING DRYER SHEET.

Yeah. I could have hurt her because as soon as she passed the dryer sheet, she was fine. She still had diarrhea, but she was Sugar.

Sunday was a good running day. I had a new PR for my 5K. Everything else was crap. Sugar ate all her food and was acting like herself. But I spilled my tea, started my period because the week just wasn't crappy enough and I had more homework to do.

Monday evening she was her old self, but girlfriend had serious diarrhea. We went to bed and at 5:15 I woke up to a horrid smell. Poor little girl had messed in her kennel. She was freaking out about it too because her kennel is her space. She has her blankets so so and now they were messy. I told Brandon to cover his nose because he vomits at this smell and went to work. Cleaned up the initial mess and threw her blankets in the washer. I even threw bleach on it because if life wasn't crappy enough, we were running out of laundry detergent.

I took her outside, she pooped again. Brandon got up and got her in the bath.

And then I came back inside and found a whole other little mess outside her kennel. It basically was like Sugar spun a circle while she pooped in her kennel.

I started bawling. I lost I sent my sister a text about what was going on even though I knew I wouldn't get a response until later.

I scrubbed my little heart out. 

Brandon got Sugar all cleaned and I had just finished cleaning up the last of the poop. When I kid you not, the dog walked into my closet and pooped again.

At this point, the dam opened and I was sobbing. I didn't think I had any more tears in me, but oh I did.

Honestly, the rest of the day wasn't all that great. And today seems to be pretty crappy too.

I just thought I'd give a heads up that the reason I haven't been "on top of things" in the blog world lately is because I don't have time for it. I'm too busy trying to keep up with all that is going on a daily basis. I'm usually a strong person, but sometimes the strong people have a hard time too. I hope people that read this post who see people like me in the real world show people some grace. Because you just never know what the person is going through.

They could have been up all night cleaning up dog crap. And let's be honest, cleaning up any crap isn't glamorous, especially when it's been a crap week.

Healthy Train Tuesday : One Year on Weight Watchers!

Healthy Train Tuesday

This Week's Loss: .8 pounds
Total Loss: 68.6 pounds
Starting Weight: 239 pounds
Current Weight: 170.4 pounds
Pounds to goal weight: 20.4 pounds

What I craved this week: Chocolate. Because well, that's what happens at a certain time of the month.

What I noticed was different about my body: I was a competition this weekend in my business clothes and I folded my arms at my waist easily. I can't tell you the last time I was able to do that.

Workouts I did this week:
  • Three runs including a 5K PR of 31:42! My pace was 10:12.
  • I lifted twice.
Personal Goal for this week:
  • Run three times.
  • I am seriously considering doing The Shred three times a week. I need to cross train and get some arms.
Favorite Quote for this week:  "Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'” - Matthew 19:26

What I’m looking forward to: 
  • St. Patrick's Day- They do things really big up here for this day. 
  • Some good BBQ. I'm not sure where we will have it yet, but we're gonna have it! 
  • Half-Marathon training starts March 24th!
Frame of Mind: I don't know how I missed it, but I have been part of the Weight Watchers program for over a year now. It has been great for me and has made all the difference in my lifestyle change. I can't wait to see what happens this year while being on Weight Watchers!

What I craved this week: Carbs, carbs and more carbs! But more specifically, mac and cheese, pizza, fries and ranch.

What I noticed was different about my body: I texted my sister every day this week a screenshot of my points used for that day. It kept me conscious of what I was eating and the choices I was making. Accountability is key! Saying that over and over again will never get old for me.

Workouts I did this week: THREE runs and two lift days.

Personal Goal for this week:
  • Workout Plan: Lift, Run, Lift, Rest, Lift, Race Day!
  • Have a good, positive, productive week! 
  • Get schoolwork done!

Monday Mumblings...

I mumble on Mondays. It's a thing. You get used to it.

  • Even though it is a whopping 34 degrees here today, the sun is out! It has been good for me. 
  • I think I'm going to get my nails did. I've got some upcoming events that it would look good if I had them done. 
  • Pandora needs to get on the "Yes I'm always still listening unless I close out of the window" train like yesterday.

  • Does anyone watch the Switched at Birth show? If so, what are your thoughts about tonight's episode?
  • I really like Greek yogurt.  
  • I am super productive in the mornings. I get less productive as the day progresses. 
  • Got my nails did today. Didn't really get to enjoy it. But it looks good. So there's that. 
  • I need to get my hair colored like yesterday.

Staying motivated during yucky winter. And a giveaway.

I don't know about y'all but my motivation during this time of the year starts to wain right about now.

I went to my running group on Sunday for my long run of the week dreading it. Not because I don't like to run, but because I'm tired of running in this crap weather. And I still struggle with the weather affecting my general peppy self. Running helps this out a lot, but at a certain point, I have a hard time.

And in the interest of being held accountable which is something I think is KEY to weight loss, I'm gonna share with you what my tricks are right now to get back to the road in the winter time. These aren't in any order by the way.

  1. Change of Tunes - I know this is a common sense one. I get most of my tunes from the number one list on iTunes and my pals Molly and Katie are regularly texting about what their latest jam is. They're always posting them on the Insta too! Also, I like certain kinds of music at certain times of year. So for example, I tend to listen to a lot of Classic Rock during the summer, so I'm having my daddy work on a playlist for me for my upcoming runs. I think it would be bomb to run a half to classic rock!
  2. Attitude/Motivation -  I've seen this quote a lot and I love it because it's so true! "People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well neither does bathing, that's why we do it daily!" In short, what I think this quote means is that you have to make a conscious choice every day to be positive about life, eating, working out, etc. I change my motivational wall in my bathroom and on my iPhone wallpaper REGULARLY. Also, when you think about it, motivation or attitude is a feeling and feelings are a choice. So, I can look out at the snow and doom and gloom sky, be a pity party of one, whine, mope, complain and just be miserable. ORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I can choose to be excited about how I'm going to run another half-marathon and how I'm going to kick ass doing it!
  3. Register for Races - I've said this before and I'll say it again, there is nothing like paying cold hard money for a race that will get your booty out the door. If I pay money for a race, then I am dang sure not gonna look like a fool doing it. I'm gonna look like a boss! 
And if the above three won't motivate you, then print this picture in a huge size and put it everywhere that you might feel a temptation.

People, yes race season is here as of...TODAY!!


But also right around the corner: summer dresses, flip flops, Norts, tank tops, and most importantly SWIMSUIT SEASON!

Any time I'm not thinking about preparing for running season, I am thinking about what swimsuit I am going to wear. Last Saturday when I was shopping with The Twitter, I was on my way to pay when Brandon stopped me to look at the swimsuit section.

Two things that made me happy:

  1. So much neon. Really, I should write a post about my love for neon. But it's just so pretty and can you imagine the neon next to pretty suntanned skin?!? 
  2. The fact that I could look at the tankini section confidently. I've come a long way and this year that work will pay off! 
  3. Okay three things! I loved that my husband was really excited about my options. Let's be honest, my swimsuit wearing ways are for him and well, I'm excited that he's excited. 

So find some motivation and get to gettin' y'all!
