An Update on The Trainer and other musings regarding working out...

I know I blogged about working with a trainer a few months ago, and then I said pretty much nothing about it.

Long story short, my trainer is also someone I go to school with and we both have conflicting schedules...until yesterday.

I didn't cuss him...yet.

I didn't die. (Obviously, I'm typing this post.)

But y'all it was hard.

I had to run to hell the location which was a little over a mile.
Then we did 50 sprints up a hill.
Got a slight break every ten sprints.
Then we did lunges, squats and push-ups.
Thankfully, we got to walk back.

It sucked big fat wang y'all.

So why am I telling you all of this? I don't want a pat on the back.

I just want others to know about other options for working out that they can do outside of a gym. I'm all about the cheap and free.

Seriously, y'all. I cannot say it enough. Making the decision back in January that this was the year I was going to take care of me and my body has been one of the best decisions of my life. I feel better. I feel healthier. My marriage is the best it has ever been and that includes the hubba-hubba department.

So if you're reading this and need the courage or extra oomph to get off the couch, do it! It is absolutely worth it. It is a fight and hard work every step of the way, but it will pay off. I promise.

Other Musings on Working Out...
  • It really chaps me when people make smart remarks about posting on Facebook/Twitter about working out. I'm thinking the Golden Rule will go a long way on this one. Either encourage those that are trying to take care of themselves or keep your snide comments to yourself. It's just that simple.
  • There is a lady at the gym who usually starts her walk about the time I'm finishing my run and she carries a coffee cup from Mickey D's with her every time. Listen, I like the smell of coffee, but not when I'm sweating profusely and am daydreaming about a big glass of ice water, and the lady spills it EVERY! STINKING! TIME! I'm not a fan. Time and place, lady. Time and place.
  • The pigeon pose recommended to me by Gina and Katie is my hero. It stretches out my hips so well. So FYI if you have that issue, pigeon pose works like a charm.
  • Have any of y'all watched the Extreme Body Makeover Edition on ABC? It's my new Biggest Loser. It seems more realistic, than going off to a gym for months at a time and a definite motivator.
Hope this finds you well!!

Happy Thursday!

Wednesday is "Apathy" Day.

Apathy (also called impassivity or perfunctoriness): is a state of indifference, or the suppression of emotions such as concern, excitement, motivation and passion.

Last year when the Invisible Children campaign was launched, it was met with two very different responses. People either were on board and made donations. They cared about the cause and wanted everyone to know about it. The other side said it was a scam and a sign of the times in that people wanted to do their part by sitting behind a computer screen and giving money to feel better about themselves. It was a true sign of how much our society had become the microwave society, where we want things now and quickly, and sometimes something for nothing.

This post isn't about what I thought about KONY/Invisible Children.

I'm just so struck by how much of the latter argument rings true for our society.

I've spent the last few months trying to figure out why people in general are so rude and cranky. You know, what is their problem? What happened to common decency and caring about the community around you?

More often than not, I find that people want to put their name on something, but when it comes time to actually doing work and getting sweaty, they want no part. If an event doesn't go their way or how they thought it would based on their life experiences which are limited, then they throw a hissy fit that would make even the chillest moms cringe.

When did we as a society become so indifferent? When did we become okay with cheap talk and doing nothing to back it up?

I mean seriously, people can talk and talk and talk all they want about their ideals and what they believe or think  and then walk out the door and do nothing about it. Somehow, this has become acceptable.

When did we stop becoming doers?

And then in the middle of this gripe session inside my head, I was struck with my own indifference.

Since around April, I haven't had too much of a relationship with God. I've just been really quiet on my end of the deal and it seems to be the same for the other end as well. I don't really know what to say to God right now. I'm not mad at Him. I'm not irritated with Him. I'm just quiet. You would think right now is when I'd be tight with God considering that major life changes are coming at us in just a little over a year now. Instead, I'm quiet. I haven't been to church in a month and I know that I need to be in there.

We've really been spending a lot of time with friends from school since we'll all be graduating soon. If I'm honest, that time has been great and yet a setback at the same time. Some are believers. Some aren't. And I've found myself becoming complacent with where I am instead of striving to be set apart. I'm all for having a good time and I think that God wants us to enjoy this one life He has so graciously given us, but at the same time I don't think He wants us to get lost in it either.

I have to work at this relationship and lately, I haven't been. I can't read the latest devotional that everyone is buzzing about on The Twitter/IG/the blogosphere and expect to be at the same level, if I'm not willing to put in the time or work.

I enjoy all of the community service projects I've been a part of recently and find myself easily annoyed when others aren't as passionate. Hell, I just wrote a tirade about it above, but why am I not as passionate about my relationship with Christ. Why am I not getting fired up about that lately? And also, why do I care so intensely about what others think of me, when my only concern should be what Christ thinks of me.

I don't have a real stopping point for this post because I'm still in the middle of experiencing this whole whatever it is. I also kinda find it fitting to just let this post sorta float out there and let it be for now.

Happy Wednesday.

Healthy Train Tuesday.

This Week's Loss: 2.2 pounds

Total Loss: 43.0 pounds

What I craved this week: I didn't really have any cravings until yesterday and I wanted a good old fashioned plate of nachos from an awesome place that plays loud mariachi band music and a cupcake.

What I noticed was different about my body: I can wear those Nike running shorts that everyone else can wear! My mom bought me a pair at Christmas. I am assuming she thought I could wear them, but they soon became a goal area for me. I'd try them on every once in awhile secretly. Yesterday, I finally felt comfortable wearing them.

Workouts I did this week: I hit all my runs and did the one at Relay for Life without any trouble at all. It actually was a great run for me.

Personal Goal for this week: No flex points. I didn't make it this week, but I am determined to not use any of them this week. DETERMINED. I also want to hit all my runs.

Favorite Quote for this week:

Discipline is just choosing between what you want now and what you want most.

Hope everyone is having a great week! Happy Tuesday!

Monday's Mumblings.

I sometimes mumble on Mondays. It's a thing. You get used to it.

  • I feel like poor life decisions have been abounding in the world recently. I, for one, am tired of them. Example: No more Full House re-runs on ABC Family. I am not sure who made this poor life decision, but replacing them with stupid shows not even worth mentioning is one of the worst life decisions I've seen in awhile.
  • I think the Strawberry Powerade Zero drink is my new favorite thing. If it's bad, don't tell me. I plan to buy a case of it when I hit up Sam's next time.
  • Brandon and I started Dawson's Creek again. I'm thinking it's going to become a summer thing for us.
  • Speaking of summer, we're having a really great one. Thank you for asking.
  • I am so looking forward to the 4th of July. We have lots of fun plans for that day with our friends here including time on the lake and a bonfire afterwards!
  • I have hit up more car shows willingly in my entire life this summer than I ever care to admit. They've been fun and I'm sure my daddio will be pleased as punch to read this part of the post.
  • Vague huff...
  • There was a mosquito that basically went to town on my ankles and wrists last night.
Happy Monday y'all!

Edited to Add:

If you're here from Jenna's Journey, welcome!! My name is Sam and I live in Michigan, but I am a native Oklahoman! I am here for a short while due to me being in law school. My husband and French bulldog Paisley live with me and they are also native Oklahomans! We have no kids presently.

Work outside the home? Well, if pretty much living in the library at the end of each semester counts as working outside the home, then yes, I work outside the home.

I hope you stick around and I look forward to reading your blogs as well!

Braggin' on my sister, Jess.

I just wanted to take a moment to brag on my little sister Jess. She's in the middle of a weight loss journey and is one of my biggest motivators and encouragers.

She's down almost 60 pounds now and is looking so great!

Jess with our baby sister, Loren.

Jess by herself. I think she was at our baby brother's baseball game. Obviously.
Doesn't she look GREAT?!?!!

I'm thinking I may have her write a blog post soon about her weight loss journey.

Now we just need to find her a man!!

Happy Thursday y'all!

Seven years. An Icee Date. Me and my Bear.

Today marks the day that my life would never be the same. Outside of my salvation, it is the most important day of my entire life. (Yes, I think it rates as high as our engagement and wedding day, because without this time, neither of those things would exist.)

Seven years ago, I met this sweet tall teady bear who would one day become my husband at summer camp.

We were 20 and 21, just kids. A few days later (aka today!) we became official. I still remember the conversation that made us official like it was yesterday.

It was during our first official icee date. If you grew up going to this certain Southern Baptist camp in Oklahoma, you totally know what I'm talking about.

From the moment we were together, we accepted each other for who we were, faults and all.

I got to do all the things that I'd wished and hoped for with a boy at this camp with B and I didn't even have to ask to do them! That later would be telling of our relationship.

But the biggest and most significant part of this day was that Brandon pursued me. I didn't have to chase him. I would consider it a life-altering moment for me.

So this post marks the beginning of the most wonderful experience of my life. To my future kids--if you're girls, don't ever accept less than what your daddy would give you and to my sons, don't ever go after the girl who pursues you, the other way around is far more rewarding.

To my sweet husband, I love you. I can't wait to see where our life together takes us next. I feel like we can take on the world.

Healthy Train Tuesdays...

This Week's Loss: 0.2 pounds

Total Loss: 40.8 pounds

What I craved this week: A Maple Long John/Maple Doughnut. Both just sound so good to me. Apparently I'm on a sweet's kick because the piece of Red Velvet Cake on Kelly's blog looks fabulous too!! And then yesterday I started smelling that explains all my sweet cravings for the past week!

What I noticed was different about my body: I am starting to get a waist again y'all!

Workouts I did this week: I hit all my runs!!!

Personal Goal for this week: To not use any of my flex points and to hit all my runs again. I am ready to break through this plateau, so that's my change-up plan for now.

Also, I am doing one of my runs at a Relay for Life event with all my friends present. I'm super self-conscious about this. So if you wouldn't mind, please pray for my nerves. I know that's vain as all get out, but I'm still nervous.

Favorite Quote for this week:

If you're struggling, print this out and put it up where you see it every day.

Also tonight at MIDNIGHT is the last time you can enter my giveaway! If you are just dying for a shirt, enter RUBYTURTLEHIPPIE for 10% off. Vanessa can do anything you want. Seriously, she's awesome!

Talking 'bout those MALICIOUS New Jersey Housewives...

I've tried to keep quiet for a bit about the drama on RHONJ.  (Because I know these people personally and all.)

I don't really know what to think about Caroline v. Tre. I think there is something more than the whole cookbook thing. Caroline strikes me as a person who doesn't want to feed the BS. So maybe that's why she hasn't done interviews yet.

But I do have something to say about Teresa's "new" outlook on life.

It's been interesting to me to watch these last few weeks as the RHONJ do the press junkets. When Bethenny Frankel started to separate herself from the Housewives, she did her interviews separately. This go round, Teresa has done the same. She pulled her stunt of refusing to be on the stage with Melissa and Kathy. I actually agree with her as to why she didn't want to be on stage with them, but the way that she went about it was tacky and rude.

Just a personal observation of mine, that tacky and rude seems to be a re-occuring theme for Teresa.

The reason that Bethenny has done so well is because she is who she is. She doesn't try to keep up an image of what she thinks the public wants her to be.

Teresa can't say the same. She's not genuine whatsoever. It's all about making money for her.

Is there something wrong with making money? Heck no, there isn't.

Is there something wrong about lying to your friends? YES. ABSOLUTELY.

There is something wrong with lying to anyone for that matter. I just don't understand why friends would lie to each other.

Do I think that Teresa will get her own show? Doubtful. I don't really think that Andy Cohen would let it happen.

As for the Teresa v. Jacqueline showdown...I really feel bad for Jacqueline. I feel like she genuinely cared for Teresa at the time. I have a feeling that I'm going to cry during next week's episode for Jacqueline's loss. Losing a friend is HARD.

The supposed "ambush" that Teresa claims happened. I'm not buying it. It seems like Caroline just showed up. It also looks like Teresa once again is interpreting things to her advantage. I realize that there is always three sides to every story, but dang, Teresa sure does give herself extra credit.

As for Melissa and Kathy...we'll see what happens with them and Teresa because they obviously are on the outs worse than what they were now.

Okay I'm done rambling now. What do y'all think?

Happy Monday!

On my dad

It's another year away from my daddio on this day.

The older I get the more I get like my dad. (My mother, siblings and husband are shaking their heads furiously at this point in the post.)

I take pride in being like my dad.

I like history.
I like good music.
I like a good book.
I appreciate a good joke.
I laugh like he does.
I am sentimental.
If I get upset about something, I get sick to my stomach.
I feel like I get my thirst for knowledge from him as well.
I am a worry wart.
I am creative.
I am tenderhearted.

With the passing of my Grannie last year, his life gets ever so precious to me each day.

I find myself tearing up randomly when I think about him and his age. He's not super old by any means in our day and age.

I know that might sound dark and sad to some, but for me, it means that I've have a wonderful relationship with my dad.

I love you daddio. I'm glad to be like you.

It's the time of the Season

(Press Play for Mood Music.)

Every Thursday night in the summertime is Classic Car Night in Depot Town in Ypsilanti. My daddio is so proud because I willingly went to a car show without him. Going to car shows was a regular event for me growing up.

So we hit it up, had a great burger and an easy and fun date night too!

All of the pictures were taken with my iPhone and I used Instagram. I just LOVE IG! Don't y'all?

This is a Porsche Speedster aka the car from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. So cool!

Hot Rod!

Pretty Bel Air and GTO.

Chevy Chevelle. Chevy Corvette. Ford Thunderbird. aka Beach Boy music material.

I LOVED the interior on this Dodge Royal.

Check out the flames!!

My dad said the colors for this Bel Air were called Indian Bronze and Sedona Beige. Just sounds so kool!

The flames were maize and the car was such a pretty blue. HAIL!

Ford Fairlane

We saw lots of pretty Camaros. This was my favorite of the night.

Ford Continental in my all-time favorite car color.

Sharp Looking Car.
This was my favorite car tonight, hands down. It's also on the car show t-shirt!!

What are some of your favorite summertime activities?

Happy Thursday and THUNDER UP!

Wednesday is "Mumbling" Day.

Normally I mumble on Mondays, but obviously I've had a change of plans. My brain needs this dump. Either way, it's a thing. You get used to it.

  • The show "Awkward" on MTV comes back this month. My level of excitement about this is a little ridiculous.
  • Today, I'm going to eat lunch at 11:15, get ready, read Tax, do an essay, then run, go to a social, and then go to class. I know that makes no sense to half of you, but it makes total sense to me.
  • Have I told y'all that I am in the middle of planning a car show?? Well I am. It has been a VERY interesting process.
  • My dog has been acting out because we've been busy the past two weekends. It is not amusing at all.
  • Remember my awesome giveaway with Ruffles with Love.  I also have a 10% off code for y'all! Enter RUBYTURTLEHIPPIE for 10% off if you're dying for a shirt and can't wait!
  • This has been a really great summer so far. And if you haven't already, enter!!
  • We signed our lease for our last year in Michigan last week. I can't believe how time has flown.
  • On that note, I LOVE my hairstylist here. Seriously, I don't know what I'm going to do when I move back. I have someone at home, but Becky is AMAZING. Seriously. This is a big deal y'all.
  • When do the Olympics start?
  • Are y'all superstitious? I have to admit, I sometimes am. I blame the softball player in me. That being said, I'll be wearing my Bridier Baubles Chevron in Cobalt Blue bracelets every Finals game for the OKC Thunder. Mock if you must.
Aren't they pretty??
 Happy Wednesday y'all!

Healthy Train Tuesdays...and a GIVEAWAY!!!

This Week's Loss: 0.0 pounds

Total Loss: 40.6 pounds

What I craved this week: Good old fashioned greasy, fried, Southern food. I could seriously go for a Del Rancho Chicken Fried Steak, fried potatoes, and green beans with a plain Jane Sonic Coke.

What I noticed was different about my body: It is easier to use a towel now when I get out of the shower. I know this sounds dumb, but when you're bigger you can't always use a towel or a regular sized towel anyways. And I really liked that. After all, it is the little things in life right?

Workouts I did this week: I hit two runs and joined a gym!!

Personal Goal for this week: Hit all my runs and join one of the classes.

Favorite Quote for this week:
"She was a long cool woman in a black dress
Just a 5'9'' beautiful tall
With just one look I was a bad mess
'Cos that long cool woman had it all."
-The Hollies
