Flashback Friday

I was in the shower the other day daydreaming about the jeans I want to buy myself as a treat when I get to one of my major weight loss goals. (And no it's not the colored jeans. I probably won't lose enough weight in time to be able to pull those off.)

When suddenly I remembered my first daydream about jeans. When I was in fifth and sixth grade, one day we all woke up and had to have the latest pair of Z Cavaricci jeans. Then it hit that Calvin Klein was hot too. And we didn't dare wear the brands mixed with one another. It was almost worse than daring to think that Rose should have stayed with her rich fiance from Titanic then go with Jack Dawson. (Of course, Titanic hadn't happened yet. That was 7th grade. But still if you're a child of the 90s you know the seriousness of what I just said.)

Of course, the outfits were rounded off with Doc Martens and in the summertime it was Birkenstock sandals. When I played softball, in between games I lounged in my Adidas slider shoes.

What were the must haves when you grew up?

Happy Friday. This little flashback has been fun!

Slow and steady wins the race.

I haven't mumbled on here in awhile and since I have been in the library since 9:30 this morning, I think mumbling is what you're gonna get.
  • When I get tired, my accent gets stronger or so I've been told.
  • I lost 5.2 pounds this week.
  • I also have more news on the weight loss front. It involves lunch meat and butter, but not necessarily together.
  • The First Lady is going to be on The Biggest Loser next week. I'm pumped. I have arm envy...of her arms of course.
  • Prince William is home. He whisked his princess away for a get-away in the Alps.
  • Supposedly Alicia Silverstone chews up food and then regurgitates it for her child to eat. I'm not sure whether to be disgusted or really curious to know if this is a valid child rearing practice.
  • I haven't forgotten about my giveaway. I'll post a winner soon!
  • The thing I miss doing when studying for finals besides spending time with my husband most is grocery shopping. I hope this conveys how nerdy I am to you.
Happy Thursday y'all!

Wednesday is "Hot Mess" Day.

Per the Urban Dictionary...

Hot Mess:  When ones thoughts or appearance are in a state of disarray but they maintain an undeniable attractiveness or beauty.

I've been sitting here for almost thirty minutes trying to decide what to write about today.

All I can think about is what I need to get done for the day.

I need to eat. I need to run. I have an appointment at noon. I need to study. I really should have got up at 6 this morning to run, but I didn't because I went to bed late and well I was just being lazy.

Now that I'm into my day, I'm kicking myself for not getting my workout in already. If I had, then I wouldn't have the dilemma of when I should get my workout done.

Okay I think I've decided what I'm going to do...

  1. Blog...heh heh.
  2. Appointment...kinda have to make this one number 2 since it's right after class.
  3. Run.
  4. Lunch...because I don't want to have to wait to go running because I ate first.
  5. Study.
  6. An afternoon snack in there somewhere...
  7. Study some more.
  8. Dinner.
  9. Study some more.
  10. Bed.
I know you're jealous of my day.

Happy Wednesday.

A harder time than others...

"If you look for the bad in people expecting to find it, you surely will." -Abraham Lincoln

Kids, I'm having a hard time coming out of this winter weather. Thankfully, we've enjoyed a really good period of wonderful weather for about two and a half weeks up until this weekend. It has been good for me.

However, that being said, I still am having a hard time shaking loose this funk that I feel has a hold on my body.

When I study, I feel so much better. I really am productive once I get going. But the whole get going thing is a MAJOR struggle for me right now.

I am trying to look for the good. I also am praying a LOT.

I just wanted to put this out there because I know my readers are praying people. I sure could use your prayers right now.

Happy Tuesday.

Disney and Vampires and The Mafia. Oh my!

Yesterday after class I burst into tears over something completely stupid.

This morning I puked and had other tummy issues (I'm trying to be polite here.) I also still felt like I was on the verge of tears.

This is something that I go through every semester. It's just part of the job that is law school I suppose.

With each semester I've learned what works for me and what doesn't work for me to make me a better student.

With regards to stress relievers, the three that have stuck outside of exercising are Disney, Vampires and The Mafia.

Disney- I usually watch three to four Disney movies during this time. I also watch them over and over and over again. This go round it seems like Sleeping Beauty and Alice in Wonderland are part of the group.

Vampires- I am an unabashed fan of the Twilight series. I read all the books, sat in the audiences with all the teeny-boppers, and have bought all the soundtracks save the last one. What can I say? I'm the pop culture's target market audience. I own it. The music, however, is some of my favorite study music. There is something about it that just gets me in the zone.

The Mafia- Specifically, movies about the Mafia are ones that I just can't get enough of during this time. Scarface, The Godfather 1&2, The Departed, The Sopranos, Ocean's 11, and SAMCRO-yeah I know this isn't the Mafia, but it definitely is a similar story-all are shows that I just can't get enough of during this time. I know the Disney and this section make me look like a freak of nature. Oh well I guess.

A girlfriend's gotta do what a girlfriend's gotta do to get through finals.

Happy Monday y'all!

Why I hopped on the Weight Watchers Healthy Train.

A couple of weeks ago, we had friends over for dinner. I knew it was going to be a bad meal to say the least, but I had been planning for this event.

We had ribs and chicken on the grill. I made Pioneer Woman's mashed potatoes, some steamed broccoli, and mac and cheese. One of our friends brought a great salad. We also had low-fat raspberry, lime, orange, and rainbow (lime/lemon/orange) sherbet for dessert. It definitely blew my calories out of the water.

I made sure to get a run in that day though so it wouldn't be awful on my body.

The next day, I completely and totally craved nothing but junk.

The day after that? Same thing. I was pretty much ready to go off the deep end.

I am a pretty strong willed person, but I definitely have my weak moments.

I had lost twenty pounds, but I was in a rut that was headed for a nosedive.

The Biggest Loser this season is all about the excuses that we make when we are trying to change our lives for the better by losing weight. I knew that I needed to make a change and fast.

So I joined Weight Watchers. It's easy to track. The dues are cheap, but just enough that I am going to stick with it because I'm paying for it as well. It's just another form of accountability in my opinion.

I've been on it a week and a half now. I gained a half pound this past week due to my eating spree. So it wasn't as awful as it could have been, but still.

I wrote this post because I want people to know that losing weight and changing your lifestyle isn't all roses and sunshine and rainbows. It really is hard work. I am now determined more than ever to make no more excuses. I hope that someone who is going through this struggle now or a year or 4 years from now will see this and want to make the change too.

Happy Friday y'all!

Team Everyone Else

Just a few minutes ago, the news broke that the Real Housewives of New Jersey will be back a month from today.

What exactly are Teresa and Caroline arguing about?

Is Dina, Team Teresa or Team Caroline?

Are Jacqueline and Teresa really dunzo?

Are things still okay between the Kathy, Melissa and Teresa?

We'll find out soon enough! As you know, based on last season and the reports from last fall, I'm Team Everyone Else in the Teresa vs. Everyone Else breakdown.

Where do you fall?

HAPPY Thursday!

Wednesday is "Hot Topics" Day.

Hot Topics: topics of discussion that usually are associated with controversial opinions; a regular segment on The View

I thought today that I'd talk about a few hot topics that have been on the radar the last few weeks in the celeb world and then a topic that I think should be a hot topic.

Jessica Simpson

By now, there have been several arguments about her blossoming figure. I realize that I'm not a mom and have never been pregnant. For some of you, that might be cause for you to think that my opinion shouldn't count. Well, guess what? This is my blog. So if you don't like it...OH. WELL.

She is reportedly 5'2-3'' depending on what publication you read. I am 5'4''. My opinion is simple on this matter. I think she's gained too much weight. I am not a doctor. I realize that. But her boobs are "bigger than my head" and y'all, even my boobs aren't that big. I get part of it has to do with the pregnancy and every pregnancy is different. But I just can't help but wonder if she's gone a bit overboard with her weight gain. Most doctors don't recommend a tremendous weight gain. It's not healthy for the momma or the baby.

That's all I'm sayin'.

Edited to Add: I feel like I should say that I am HUGE fan of Jessica Simpson's. I have been since her and Britney started their head to head back in the 90s. I also wanted to add that I was 12 when my mom was pregnant with my brother and sister. I remember asking lots of questions. Loren and Will probably don't want to know this, but they were a huge source of birth control for me. So I'm aware of things like water retention, amniotic fluid, mucus plugs, etc.. I also feel like just because I haven't been pregnant doesn't mean that I should not be able to arrive at my own opinions. I've stated that above already, but I really just wanted to nail that down in case anyone wasn't aware.

Bobbi Kristina

Supposedly, Whitney's only child has a drug problem and now has hooked up with Whitney's adopted son. She's 19 years old. I hope that the right people get in her corner and get her the help she needs. Whoever decided that she should have a meeting with Oprah is not it.

Kim Kardashian v. Jon Hamm

Read this article. Lord knows,I love reality television a lot. (Real Housewives of New Jersey/Beverly Hills/Orange County/New York, Teen Mom 1/2, Biggest Loser, Bethenny Ever After, Big Brother, AND the list goes on...and on....and on....and on!)

BUT...Jon Hamm has a point.

I am guilty of watching all of these shows. I most recently have felt conviction about watching Teen Mom. I saw a tweet last week that said there were 25,000 applications for Teen Mom 4. That is ridiculous. I used to think it was a good thing. Now, I am not sure what to think. I just know that I'm not really comfortable with watching it anymore.

Peyton Manning Going to the Broncos

I thought this joke was hilarious.

Water in Restaurants

Can someone explain why they give small cups in  restaurants to people who order water? I don't get it. I pay for a full meal just like the person next to me. Why am I being penalized for trying to make a health conscious choice by wanting to drink water? And don't tell me that it's cheaper either!

What do y'all make of these subjects? What are the hot topics that have you up in arms?

Happy Wednesday!

Spring has sprung!! ...and so has my wish list.

I've been trying to reward myself in other ways besides food, since I am a classic stress eater. So I've decided to make a little wish list for Spring.

1. A good pair of headphones. I really like these from

2. Coconut Lime Verbena Body Spray from Bath & Body Works. This is my favorite smell of all time and I am rationing it currently.

3. An OU leather bracelet. I am obsessed with all things bracelet right now. Combine that with a chance to sport my alma mater, consider me hooked!

4. Nike Running Shorts. I am not comfortable wearing the famous running shorts that Nike produces...yet. But I do like wearing the running stretch pants. (How this logic makes sense, I don't know.) However, it's warming up around here and so I'm going to need something lighter, hence, the stretch running shorts.

5. Gold Glitter Nail Polish. As you know, I'm obsessed with all things glitter nail currently. I have silver and now I need a gold. Duh.

6. Blonde Hair. Yes, you read this right. I know that I know that I went brunette to save money, but y'all I am just not a brunette. I am a blonde. It's time I return to my highlights. My hair is this short currently.

7. A trip to the Magical Kingdom and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I know this one is extremely pricey, but it's still a fun wish. Plus, it's like a certain Disney princess says, "A dream is a wish your heart makes."

What's on your wish list for Spring?

Happy Spring y'all!

Happy St. Patrick's y'all!

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand
-An Old Irish Blessing

In the North, St. Paddy's Day is almost bigger than New Years. I'm actually headed out to a party once I finish in the library.

OOTD: Yellow Box flip-flops, Miley Cyrus cropped leggings, Old Navy white tank, Old Navy striped neon green tank, Old Navy white sweater, Lily and Laura bracelets, Pandora bracelet and MY NEW HAIR CUT!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Lily and Laura!

I am proud that Irish blood flows through our veins due to our family's heritage. In fact (RANDOM FACTOID ALERT) we probably will name our kids something with an Irish background, we love it that much.

Hope y'all have your green on so you don't get pinched!

Happy St. Pat's y'all!!

Because I'm a bargain shopper too.

If you follow me on twitter, you know that I've been in the market for some reasonably priced shirts and maybe even a dress to wear in the process of losing weight.

And by reasonable, you should hear the words, "bargain-shopper."

I also know that some of my readers are trying to do the very same thing.

So when I was contacted by Fashion to Figure to do a give-away, I jumped on it because y'all, they have super cah-ute stuff!!

I like this dress because it can be dressed up or down for any occasion.

I am obsessed with all things chevron lately. I will probably order this for myself!
I think this chiffon dress with the little ruffle is so darling.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this bright orange chiffon blouse. I'm all about the bright color trend this season.

I love this shirt as well. I'd totally pair it with some jeggings or cute black capri leggings.

So here is the deal...Fashion to Figure wants to give away an item from their website for under $30!*

How can you win this $30?

  1. Let me know you're a follower! If you're not, then become one today and tell me about it in the comment section.
  2. For an additional entry: go to and tell me what you just have to have.
  3. For an additional entry: tweet about this giveaway!
I'll pick the winner next Friday.

Happy Friday kids!!

*Note: If you cannot find an item, under $30, then FTF will be happy to give you a gift card for $30. I really doubt you'll have this problem though because they are just that awesome!
* This is for sizes 12-20.

Wednesday is "Petition" Day.

Petition: Make or present a formal request to (an authority) with respect to a particular cause.

Last Spring was a hard semester for me.

I lost my Grannie last April and I had to miss her funeral because I was taking an exam the same day.

I don't want to have another rough semester and it's all I can think about.

Being away from family is so hard some days.

Would y'all pray for me?

Happy Wednesday

I just can't get you outta my head....

IMPORTANT NOTE: I originally wrote this post on Saturday night. On Sunday God answered these questions for me. This post should alternatively be titled "God's Timing is Perfect."

Original Post:
When I run, I typically use this time to clear my head or if I am stressed, then I get my aggression out. This is my just being honest.

But lately?

I am constantly running the numbers on my running stats. My head starts to hurt at some point from all the math. (Please keep yo' comments to yourself. I am a law student...if we need to do math we have people who do that for us. They're called accountants.)

I don't want to put a towel over the machine though because it does push me to go harder when I see how fast I'm running or when I'm at a certain calorie level.

I guess what I am asking is do you have any suggestions on how to distract myself, so I'm not so obsessed with the numbers?

In a related topic, but still on the question front, what are you favorite motivational quotes?

I need some new motivational quotes for my workout wall and also for my mirror in my bathroom to think about while I get ready for the day.

So lay them on me.

It can be anything, scripture, movie quote, etc.

What Happened Sunday Morning...

Most of you know that I'm a nerd when it comes to school. I look forward to the end of the semester because I love the pressure and also because I really love devoting long amounts of time to studying.

But sometimes? I lose my motivation. Law school is my work right now and I really try my best, not to curse what I want to bless me. However, it's really hard not to do that sometimes.

So I was in a rut when I wrote this post basically.

We went to church and our pastor is doing a sermon on the seven habits of an effective Christian. He talked about how our service to those around us is an exercise or our daily workout as a follower of Christ. As I stated above, my daily work right now is going to school.

There are so many things that resonated with me about this sermon, but the one that hit home was a quote he gave us.

He said, "Transformed motivation can be defined as one person's 'have to' is another person's 'want to.'"

Being in school is something that I've wanted for a long time and by having a good attitude about school and the work that comes with it, it is a service to my fellow classmates. When I let it become something that I "have to do," it becomes a burden.

Afterward, I told my pastor that the sermon was for me and that it wasn't great timing, but God's timing.

Also? Check out this weather y'all!

I think this was God also taking care of my mind struggling with doing math during my workouts at least for this week. I hit the road yesterday afternoon because it was so dang nice outside.

Plus, I've heard a change in your routine is good for weight loss purposes.

I love when God answers in the "little things" of life. It's a reminder that He is in the details.

Happy Monday y'all!

Just give me a minute.

Wednesday I woke up in a craptastic mood of epic proportions.

I had a creak in my neck and I wanted to pull the covers back over my eyes and act like I didn't have class in 35 45 minutes.

I threw on some leggings and a hoodie. I also threw on a pair of flip-flops because, as of Wednesday, I also decided that I'm protesting winter. (It happens every year. I really come to loathe winter after January 2 and at some point I basically decide I'm going to will Spring to come to town because my level of disgust really is that high.)

I grabbed my bag and my water bottle and as I was headed out the door, I checked the weather.

(Yes, those two sentences really did need to be capitalized because I felt like shouting because I was so happy about this news, I could just about burst. If  you're not sure why, see above about that willing Spring to come to Michigan business I rambled about above.)

This homegirl still had to go to class.

And y'all. Sitting through any class in undergrad was pure torture. The problem is that I'm not in undergrad. I'm in grad school aka land of you have to pay attention every class because law school really is that crazy hard.

My bad mood was suddenly back on. Of course, it didn't help matters that it's officially Week 10. And Week 10 around these parts is code for, "It's time to put your big girl panties on and get ready for the long haul because you're not going to have a life for the next month because you'll be spending it at the library."

I strolled into class and people immediately could tell that I was not in the best of moods. I am pretty much a good mood person so when I'm not, it shows, big time.

Thankfully, our professor picked up on the whole ants in all of our pants because the SUN WAS SHINING and the weather was bearable for the first time in weeks and let us out 7 whole minutes early.  I know this doesn't sound like a long time, but trust me, in the law school world, it counts, especially, when all of us have the urge to shout "FREEDOM!" like William Wallace. I packed up my bag and visions of chips and guac and margaritas and massages and a good hot workout and spa treatments danced in my head. (Hey! A girl can dream right?)

I bounced into my car, turned on the radio, opened my sun roof and peeled outta the parking lot faster than the Michiganders could try to cut me off. I went and picked up my best guy (aka my husband) and we headed to lunch. I decided that I was going to take the afternoon off from school. I needed it.

After lunch, I went home and read a magazine, took a glorious nap with the windows open while the SUN SHINED INTO MY ROOM and then went to play cornhole with some of my pals from school and enjoyed an adult beverage...or two.

It was a good afternoon had by all and I felt like myself again after getting some good old fashioned Vitamin D into my system.

I just needed a minute to catch my breath before the finals studying commenced.

That is all.

Happy Friday y'all.

Favorite Noun [Person, Place or Thing]

I thought I'd try something different this week. I think it's pretty easy to follow along. Maybe it will be a somewhat regular post around these parts.

Favorite [Person(s)]
I've got three for this category.
  1. Charlie Hunnam aka Jax Teller. If you're not watching Sons of Anarchy at this point, what are you waiting for?????
  2. Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. I know I blogged about this last week, but I still am glued to any news about her.
  3. Bob Harper. He is the trainer everyone loves on Biggest Loser. I always listen to what he has to say on there each week to see if there is something I can incorporate into my workout.

Favorite [Place(s)]
Honestly, I have been craving a beach with a spa nearby so I could still get my workouts in, but tanning at the same time. I also would love a massage and a good facial. Oh yeah, a margarita wouldn't be bad either. So wherever this is, I hope I get to go soon.

Favorite [Thing(s)]
  • My Third Pillow. Yes, I know how random that sounds, but for the last three weeks, I've slept holding it and I have had some of the best sleep I've had in a long time. I feel so rested and am even getting up before my alarm goes off.
  • Vacuum Lines. I love a good vacuum line. I especially love the ones in my bedroom because I can make them super straight in there based on the layout of our furniture and the room.
  • Fresh Scentsy Bars. I love that the Scentsy bars last so long, but I really like when I get to put a fresh one in my burners. It feels the house before they ever burn halfway through a fresh piece.

Alright y'all. Play along. Tell me what your favorite nouns [person, place or things] are these days!

Happy Thursday!

Wednesday is "Smitten" Day.

Smitten: keen, enamored

Have y'all heard of appSmitten?

Well, for lack of a better word, I am smitten with it.

As you may know, I'm currently in the middle of a weight loss journey and one of the ways I decided to use the My Fitness Pal app was on the basis of a recommendation from one of the contributors at appSmitten.
This app has made a huge impact in the way I view what I'm putting in my body. It tells me what my goals for proteins, vegetables, calcium, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, etc. are for the day. I get to log in my workouts for the day and it shows how much I burn every time as well.

Another app that I started using based on the recommendation of appSmitten is Instagram. I'm not a photographer by any means. In fact, the majority of my pictures on here are from Instagram. As a result, I am now starting to look at cameras to hopefully get into photography at some point after playing with the lighting and other features available

If you haven't signed up for the appSmitten newsletter, you totally should! They have the best recommendations and they have TONS of apps for just about every category possible.

Hope y'all are having a fantastic Wednesday!
I am part of the appSmitten affiliates program and am compensated for each sign up from y'all. However, the opinions are entirely my own.

Supah Tuesday

Today is Super Tuesday.

It's one of my favorite days in an election year.

I'll be watching the returns all night in between Biggest Loser. I'm ready for this Romney/Santorum battle to be finished.

Honestly? I think that the Republicans have secured Obama to be in the White House for another four years because they can't come together on what they believe.

I personally think this is indicative of the country as a whole. People want change, but right now no one is exactly sure about how to go about it.

Will we be seeing the emergence of a new political party soon? Maybe. My professors in undergrad thought it would be happening within the decade.

Happy Tuesday y'all!

19.2 pounds and counting...

As of this morning, I am officially down 19.2 pounds.

I am feeling better every day. Seriously.

I feel better about my body and I feel healthier. I know I was recently just sick, but I feel like part of why I rebounded so quickly is because I've been taking care of myself.

So, what might you ask is working for me? (This seems to be the question people want to know most.)

Eating well and healthy.

The easiest way for me to keep track of what I am eating is by using the My Fitness Pal app.

I eat what I want, but I eat it in much smaller portions now. I drink lots and lots of water too.

I am still running. Because I'm in the magical Week 10 of the semester, I've had to cut down how many times a week I am running. Starting this week, I'll run 4 times a week and then on the days that I'm not running, I try to up my water intake.

This last one is more important than I can ever put into words. I get encouragement through my family, friends, my husband, blogs I read of success stories, Biggest Loser, The Twitter and Instagram.

When they encourage me, it helps and pushes me to keep going and to not become complacent with the hard work I've done already.

And I want to take this time to say that if you know someone who is trying to lose weight, be generous with your love and support. It is so hard to keep going some days.

Hope this finds you well.

Happy Sunday!

Thursday, March 1, 2012

I just can't help myself.

I have a confession to make.

I cannot get enough news about The Duchess of Cambridge.

I was in the middle of getting ready for class this morning and Good Morning America started a segment on her and I ran into the living room mid-flat ironing.  Apparently, she went to tea with Her Majesty, The Queen and Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cornwall, today.

I scour the news each day for sightings of her latest outfit, including British media outlets. According to the one articles I read today, Her Majesty, The Queen has taken her under her wing.

And I may or may not be on pins and needles waiting for a baby announcement-the rumors currently are that they're waiting until after the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations are over to try for a baby. Of course, there's no official comment from the palace on the growth of their family.

I know riveting stuff around these parts.

Is there a celebrity or royal you're obsessed with lately?

Happy Thursday and Happy March!
