Wednesday "Lots to Say" Day.

Lots to Say: I really hope this is self explanatory.

1. Blogger Convench- I don't know if any of you have had the opportunity to meet other bloggers, but this weekend was amazeballs. I am so glad I had this opportunity.

For real y'all. NOT. FOR. FAKE.

Because? It was just what the doctor ordered.

On Friday we loaded up and headed to the Dirty D to pick up the girls from the airport. Yes, I said we.
Of course, her royal highness came! Because? She thinks she's the reason they came.
My husband and sister kept asking if I was nervous to meet the girls and I said no. I was more nervous about driving to the Dirty D. I know. It sounds ridic now that I talk about it.

So after we picked up the girls, we went straight to lunch and stuffed ourselves with a Red Robin burger. Because? We were starving. Afterwards, we hit up Starbucks for Red Velvet Whoopie Pies. I stand by my statement that it is like sex in your mouth. We then headed to the hacienda because I had to set out some things for dinner. We had major gossip sessions throughout the weekend and we also got to talk to Britt on Friday night!
Paisley wasted no time making pals. This picture kinda know.
I then proceeded to have the worst night known to my personal cooking history. If something could go wrong, or I didn't have it, it happened. But thankfully, PW's stuffed shells turned out okay after all. If you wanna see a picture, you should head to Sus's blog. I think b.e.g. and Sus liked them. At least I heard no complaints.

We started watching Real Housewives of New Jersey because Sus had never seen the first season. We quickly decided that it would be a project to fix this problem during the weekend.

Soon, in true form and fashion, our little b.e.g. was fast asleep and Sus and I knew it was time to head to sleep before she was up at the crack of dawn. It was ten o'clock. I think that's some kind of record for b.e.g. Anyway, we woke up the next day and got ready to hit up the town of Ann Arbor.

We had lunch at California Kitchen. While I don't have the picture, I can verify that b.e.g. was hydrating regularly. We then went for mani/pedis.
I'm not sure if I've ever shown my ring on here. Well, here it is.
After dropping a small fortune for both items we headed to Coach, Victoria's Secret and Old Navy.

Damage was done, but not as bad as it could have been. I mean we did go into Coach and everyone walked out empty handed.

We then headed home and had steak/chicken, broccoli, potatoes and cake balls for dinner.

We had red velvet cake balls in case you were wondering.

Now the only question, you have left to determine is:
Do you like your balls naked?

Or do you like your balls half and half?
They are important questions. Two certain bloggers peaced out without taking any. Shucks...guess that's just more for me. We then watched the rest of Real Housewives and kept b.e.g. up until 11:30. She also slept in until 7:30am. I was proud.

We woke up and killed time, but also got ready because soon it was time to take the girlies off to the airport.

Solo shots: I find it highly amusing when a Conservative flashes the peace sign.

And b.e.g. is from the East side. After I shot this picture I had the very strong urge to pull her hand down quickly because hello! We were in the Dirty D!
Seriously, I had the best time and I cannot wait for this fall in the big ATL. Can you say football season in the South? Be still my beating Sooner heart!

But really, I know we talk all the time about how we're so grateful for the blogger community. But now after meeting the girls, it only makes life that much more special. I am so glad that you both are in my life. Because? You two are awesome and I had the time of my life.

I for real teared up as I was leaving the airport.

I wish this is where the mushy ends, but it is only the beginning.

2. After we went to Sonic on Sunday, I got a phone call from my dad that my Grannie is dying. She's had Alzheimer's for a long time and we've finally come to the end. But if she passes before finals I can't go home. I was a total wreck on Sunday and Monday and part of yesterday. It's partly why things have been so quiet lately around here on the blog. Please keep my family in your prayers.
told ya I went to Sonic.
3. Pray for me regarding school. After I write this blog, I only have a few more pre-written posts to write before I say ta-ta to the blog world until after finals.

I guess that's it.

Happy Wednesday!

I'm a big girl now!

Who else is singing the "I'm a big kid now! Pull-Up" song. I'm sorry I know it's about training pants, but the tune is catchy and I happen to be a juvenile on occasion. Deal.

If you're new to the blog, you need to read this post and this post before you read on.

What can I say? I am a Vera Bradley lover or more affectionately as my sisters and I refer to it: Vera.

Some girls love LV. Others Prada.

I love Vera (and Old Navy, but that's another post for another day.)

I have tried to walk away many a time, but every time I get remotely irrational and talk crazy close, Vera reels me back in. Talk about good marketing skills.

I say all of this to remind you that I also have successfully passed my first semester of law school.

And well, B wanted to reward me for all my hard work. My momma says he's a keeper.

Obviously I didn't turn him down when he says those magical words.

But I've also wanted another type of bag for a long time other than Vera.

(I know! Y'all can pick your jaws up off the floor now!)

Because well let's face it. I'm on my way to a big girl job. And big girls need to look official and professional and whatnot.

So I did it. I bought a Coach purse.

(I feel like Vera is yelling at me some where in the world right now!!)

But the boy wanted to reward me and I wasn't saying no. I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid. So I started searching the internets to see what I'd find. What I found was that it was astronomical.

Later in the week, I went to lunch with B who works by the mall. We had lunch at Chipotle. (Yes I eat there about once a week. A girl has to get Mexican somehow. Also, if you're from the South think about how sad it is that my good Mexican is Chipotle.) ANYWAY, B mentioned that we should head to the Coach store to look. So I went into the mall thinking that I wouldn't find anything because let's face it designer bags of any kind are expensive. We walked in and of course, the ladies swarmed us like bees on honey welcomed us and I said the classic, "Oh we're just looking."

We wandered around for a bit and I found a section of bags that were pretty good size and made the comment, "The problem is that what I want is just huge and I'm sure that it's going to be so expensive." I looked at the tag and it was under $200. I couldn't believe it. I thought oh I'm sure that's the key-chain price. B picked it up and actually opened up the thing because I was afraid I was going to break it or something.

He said, "No it's within our price range. You should get it."

So I did.

Ain't she perty?
It was a magical moment and I still smell the bag on occasion because it smells so good. I'm in love.

In fact, I was a smitten kitten until I sent a text showing off my new purse to my SIL. And then she said, "So are you done with Vera now?"

And y'all I almost cried because I felt so bad. How could I go against the Vera who has been good to me since college days? The one whose purchase could brighten the darkest days?

I quickly responded, "Heck no! I'm a Vera fan through and through!"

Now a couple of weeks later, I'm starting to come out of my Coach-coma because in true fashion, Vera has reeled me back in...again.

(Let's all pray that B doesn't read this post for quite awhile mmkay?)

I personally have no problem with this turn of events. Remember, I like Vera. I am aware that I have a problem. I admit it freely.

But y'all!

I need stuff to be a bit more organized in my big girl bag and you-know-who has come out with their summer lines!

I personally prefer this one.

Don't cha just love the clarity of the iPhone camera?
So maybe I'll get lucky and the Easter Bunny aka my momma will see this post and deliver on the big day in a few weeks.

Otherwise, the big JC's life isn't the only thing we're gonna be reflecting on when Easter rolls round.

I kid. I kid.

Happy Tuesday!

Monday mumblings...

I mumble on Mondays. It's a thing. You get used to it. Today has been a weird day so naturally, this is posted late.

  • There was a big thunderstorm here last night. I normally sleep well during storms, but I had a nightmare that lasted all night. I'd wake up in a sweat, calm myself down, go back to sleep and it was like I basically pressed pause while I was awake and then play when I went back to sleep. NOT. FUN.
  • When people come to do any repair work on the house, I hate being the one who has to be there. Don't know why, but I do.
  • Finals are three weeks away. That seems really close and that also seems really far away. Time is relative after all.
  • My dog is suddenly obsessed with drinking from the tub again.
  • Sometimes I organize myself to the point of annoyance.
  • How does one post a video to youtube?
  • All the lights in my bathroom work again and not going to lie I miss the underexposure I got from only two bulbs working.
  • I bought jeggings. Mock if you must.
Happy Monday!

Happy St. Patrick's Day y'all!

I hope everyone is enjoying the festivities while I am busy studying.

I am actually coming up on finals again pretty quickly and wanted to know if anyone wanted to guest post for me.

It can be about anything.

I know I hate those types of writing assignments too, but I will say that there will be "Educational Wednesday" spots and "Monday Mumblings..." spots open on a first come first served basis.I'd even be open to someone writing about their favorites on a Friday!

Now please, let's not all jump at once, but seriously, I really need your help please!

Happy Thursday and Happy St. Pat's!

Wedneday is "Boomer Sooner" Day.

Boomer Sooner*: 1. The fight song for the University of Oklahoma. 2. A chant amongst alumni and fans of the school. When in the presence of other Sooner fans, one person must first yell "Boomer!!!" and it is the duty of someone nearby to reply "Sooner!!!". Both must be done as loudly as possible.

Last week on twitter, someone asked what "Boomer Sooner" meant.

I was floored.

I thought everyone knew what it meant. Then I felt like I may have failed my readers. After all, when one thinks about this blog I hope one of the many things that comes to mind besides blonde hair, law school, Jesus, politics, rock and roll, Oklahoma and Michigan is definitely all things Sooner!

So today I aim to rectify this situation.

I know that everyone says that there is nothing like a home game somewhere...but really there is nothing like a home game at OU. Seriously, it is one of the best experiences a student can have while at THE University of Oklahoma.

And the two traditions that one learns quickly on their first game day has to do with the phrase "Boomer Sooner."

1. The Fight Song

The words for the fight song are:

Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner
Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner
Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner
Boomer Sooner, OK U!

Oklahoma, Oklahoma
Oklahoma, Oklahoma
Oklahoma, Oklahoma
Oklahoma, OK U!

I'm a Sooner born and Sooner bred
and when I die, I'll be Sooner dead
Rah Oklahoma, Rah Oklahoma
Rah Oklahoma, OK U!

There are more words than this, but for purposes of this blog post I'm keeping it simple.

As a Sooner, my heart swells with pride every time I hear this song. As I mentioned earlier in the week, in less than two months my sister will become an alumna and I cannot wait to return to Oklahoma in May to wear my pin with pride as she walks across the stage.

When the band approaches the field and the drum major basically walks with the tip of his hat almost touching the ground he's bent over so far you know that the game is about to begin. This song is one of the first things we hear as the team prepares to take the field. It gives me chills every time.

2. The Boomer-Sooner response.

After the team is on the field we start yelling to each other. One side of the stadium yells "Boomer!" Then the student section side yells "Sooner!" We do this multiple times until it's time for kick-off.

Seriously, I cannot tell you the energy that is bouncing off the stadium walls as the approach to the game begins. The tension is definitely palpable and the excitement is like nothing you've ever seen.

I cannot wait to share this experience with my children some day.

Hope this clears up any questions you might have.

Boomer Sooner and Happy Wednesday!

The Royal Wedding

I mentioned last week that I watch too much tv. That statement still holds true. But when a major moment in history is on, it is even worse.

The summer that Reagan passed also happened to be the time when I had my tonsils out. (I was 19 at the time. If your doctor recommends taking out your child's tonsils at an early age. DO IT. It is more painful the older you are. Okay PSA over.) Because I hurt so bad, I had to make sure I stayed on my meds. Well, the pain was basically unbearable the first 4 days. So while I was waiting for my meds to kick in one of those nights I happened to be watching CNN when it broke that Reagan had passed away.

Now I don't know about you, but everything in the world passes away when I hear there is going to be a major dignitary event. I know it's nerdy. I admit it. Someone tries to talk to me about the latest Grey's episode and I'm like, "ummm...the President is on every channel and I'm kinda busy."

I can't help it.

When I see the American government in action, I get excited. Hello! You're talking to the girl who took a vacation day to watch the inauguration of our current President. I plan for these events.

I have the best tv, the remote, my best pjs, and my computer so I can google any question I might have regarding symbolism from the day.

I told you. NER.DY.

It is also emotional.

When Senator Ted Kennedy died, I was at work. I LOVE the Kennedy family. Love them. Love them so much that I got seven phone calls and 10 texts from people offering their condolences to me.

They have done a ton for our country and are the epitome of the American Dream.

And I bawled like a baby when his son spoke of sledding down the mountain with him. BAWLED.

Who gets involved like this?

Well I'll tell ya. Me.

So now, it's time for another major historical event. Prince William is to take his bride on April 29th.

And I'm committed.

It is in the planner.

I'm gonna call my mom so she knows when it starts because she watched Prince Charles and Lady Di get married.

I have made it clear to B that while I love him tremendously,  but to please not expect to get anything out of me that day.

I have a serious date with the boob-tube.

There's just one small detail I haven't hammered out yet.

I don't know what time the whole thing starts.

So if someone knows this minor detail, could you let me know?

I'd like to know what time I'll be dragging my body out of bed to watch the whole shen-dig.

Happy Tuesday!

Monday mumblings...

I mumble on Mondays. It's a thing. It just takes me a bit to get going on this day. You get used to it.

  • I am really sappy. Like emotionally sappy.
  • Spring is trying so hard to come to Michigan, but that damn Jack Frost is a serious pain in the butt. He just can't let go.
  • I took a four hour coma nap last Wednesday. I think maybe I was tired.
  • Red Velvet Whoopie Pies from Starbucks are amazeballs.
  • I miss Braum's Ice Cream.
  • So since I study in closets so well these days I've moved my desk into our other closet. I now have my very first law office. It's not anything special, but it gets the job done. See?
  • I plan on doing one of those iPhone picture dump posts soon. I know it's technically cheating on a blog post, but I'm dangerously close to finals and I need something easy.
  • I write a five line poem at least once every week that is super cheesy and it rhymes.
  • The phrase, "Your mom goes to college" still makes me chuckle to myself.
  • I like to match a lot. Example: Last week, I work leggings, an OU t-shirt, an OU hoodie and my OU flip-flops. Yes, there was snow on the ground and yes I broke the leggings aren't pants rule.
Happy Monday!

When I graduated college, my sister, Jessi, and I were roommates. I moved back to our hometown and she stayed in Norman.
At the time, she was thinking about coming home because she was so homesick. I found out a couple of nights before my wedding that this is what she was considering.

I wanted her to so desperately have the wonderful college experience I had.

I figured out who I was in Norman as a person. I felt like with me being there the first year and a half she kinda got an easy ticket because big sister was there with her. Don't get me wrong, part of the reason that I had a great college experience was because I got to share it with her. But the other part was when I made friends with girls to this day I can always count on for anything. I wanted that for her.

So I begged her to reconsider.

She shared that she didn't think she could be brave enough to stay by herself.  Of the two older kids, I am the social butterfly and Jessi is more of the home-body. Naturally, this means that we meet people in different styles from each other.

I remember telling her that she was one of the bravest people I knew and even if she called every day that she was still brave because she was in the middle of living out her life away from home. I told her to get plugged into our sorority and everything would all work out.

Later in the semester, she was elected into office for our sorority.

That fall, girls that were mutual friends of ours told me that they were so thankful she was in their life. Their college experience would not have been the same without her.

She even got the nickname "Sass" which was hilarious because it was a theory I've had along, but others had finally seen it.

Now, she is the un-official "Momma" amongst her friends. When someone is down, needs some good cookies, a shoulder to cry on or a "Put your Big Girl panties on" lecture, Jessi is your go-to girl.

She has blossomed into a beautiful young lady.

I am very proud to tell you that in two months from today, my little sister Jessi will graduate from THE University of Oklahoma.

She will walk across the stage, switch her tassel and officially become an alumna.

Love you sister. See you in a couple of months! I'll be the one with the alumni pin already on!

Happy Sunday y'all and Boomer Sooner.

My sister's got skillz in the baking department....

Hey y'all,

I am thinking that Jessi blogging on my site might become more of a permanent thing around here at the ruby Turtle hippie times.

I need a breather and she has mad baking skillz.

So, she can if nothing else, talk about what latest baking feat she's the famous rainbow cake!

Today she's talking about Red Velvet Chocolate Chip Cookies!

Happy Friday!

Hey Peeps,

It’s Jessi here. I don’t know about y’all, but I love to bake me some sweets.

When I get stressed or have anything coming up I automatically head to the kitchen. It is where I can let loose and make a mess and have fun at the same time.

Well this past weekend I had my sorority retreat and so I baked a rainbow cake (see above), cakies, and red velvet cookies. Good thing I had 60 girls who love to eat sweets.

Red Velvet Chocolate Chip cookies and cakies!

My roomie and I recently have been baking cookies out the wahzoo. I am not even sure if that is a word, but I gonna make it into one. Anyways I love to try new recipes and open to try just about anything.

My roomie recently made some red velvet choc chip cookies recipe that she found over at

We both followed the recipe that uses the box mix, but if you want to go the extra mile there is a recipe from complete scratch.

Okay so here is what I baked first:

Red Velvet choc. Chip cookies
• Take one box of red velvet cake mix and pour it into a bowl
• Then add your eggs
• Then your vanilla
• Then your oil
• Mix ingredients together set aside
• Grab your choc. Chip and fold them in
• Then roll dough into small balls
• Place dough balls on cookie sheets and bake at 350
• Only cook for 8 mins (Watch closely because 8 mins is all they take

• 1 box of red velvet cake mix
• 2 eggs
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 1/3 cup of vegetable oil
• ¾ cup of choc chips
*This makes 24 cookies!

Hope this finds you well! Happy Friday!

My half birthday...

Today is my half birthday.

In the last six months we have:
  • started law school.
  • moved states away from our family.
  • spent our first Christmas away from Oklahoma.
  • (I have) watched my husband enter the professional world.
  • endured our first Michigan winter...and are still enduring it for that matter.
  • learned another city.
  • found a great church. Seriously, we can't say enough about our church.
  • loved this time in our life.
I get to live out my dream every day and while it is hard to stay in the now sometimes, I really am happy to be where I am in life.

Happy Thursday!

Wednesday is "Ash Wednesday" Day.

Ash Wednesday: the beginning of Lent season

Today marks the beginning of Lent season. I am Baptist. Baptists do not celebrate this season.

I observe it because I like the symbolization of the many sacrifices that Christ made while in the desert.

I started talking to my husband about giving up something a few weeks ago because I thought it would be nice to do something together.

And we still have nothing, but hopefully something will come to us before the day is over.

In the mean time, I hope that the beginning of this beautiful season is off to a good start for everyone.

Happy Wednesday.

Fears realized....

I have three major fears in life aside from the classic failure fear.

1. Snakes

I have always been afraid of snakes. I once jumped across the yard off my front porch because B told me there was a harmless black snake there. I then proceeded to hop around the yard until I figured out that the snake was headed in the opposite direction of me. Brandon was doubled over in laughter as I screamed and hopped around.

Clearly, he is a man concerned for my well being.

2. The Dark

Yes I know how ridiculous this sounds. Until I was married and living with Brandon I slept with my Bear. Seriously, the night before my wedding I slept with Mr. Bear. And to this day, if I'm the last to bed, I work my way across the apartment turning off the lights. I am very thankful for my phone's flashlight so I don't have to race around to my side of the bed.

3. Public Flatulence

Yes, you read that correctly. I'm afraid of tooting in public. In the privacy of my own home or our families homes, I have no problem letting them fly. But, if this were to happen in public I would be downright mortified. (See mom, I am your daughter after all!)

In class last week there was no hole to crawl in for me.

Recently, I have discovered that if I prop my book up it is easier to keep up with my note taking in class. So I started to do that when my book made a very loud farting noise!!!

I froze in shock as the people around me laughed, while silently praying for the return of Jesus.

Thankfully, the subject we were talking about quickly took the attention off the toot from my book that no one knew where it came from so I could begin to relax.

But still, it was bad.

What are some of your fears?

Happy Tuesday!

Monday mumblings...

I mumble on Monday mornings. It just takes me a bit to get going. You get used to it at some point.

  • I watch entirely too much tv. But in my defense, I get a lot done when I watch it. I am a cleaning machine and crank out some blog posts. It's a chance to keep my house and my mind sane.
  • My dog recently has decided she does not like being in her gate.
  • I took off my shellack manicure and filed my nails. I am ready for another one again.
  • My motto lately is "Just keep swimming".
  • I am ready for RHONYC. I do not watch RHOC.
  • I have been craving ice cream lately and we never to get it from the store when we go.
  • Hipstamatic is my new favorite app.
  • Saw "No Strings Attached" this weekend. It was good. It has one of the best chick flick movie lines in my opinion.
  • Gas price hikes are ridiculous and outrageous.
  • Sometimes cranky people need to build a bridge and get over it. (I'm talking about the general public here.)
Happy Monday.

Happy 25th times 2 to my momma!

I don't get to be with my momma on her special day and I'm bummed.

But that doesn't mean that we can't enjoy watching the most famous skit regarding being the magical age of 50!

Because I don't know about you, but there is nothing like Sally O'Malley!

And don't forget to dance around to this!

Happy Birthday Momma! I hear the weather is 72 and sunshine far as the eye can see in Oklahoma!

Love your FAVORITE daughter,

Wednesday is "Headache" Day.

Headache-a pain located in the head, as over the eyes, at the temples, or at the base of the skull.

I have a headache and am still doing homework. Oy. So I'm cheating and quasi-posting today.

Hope your day is going great.

Happy Wednesday!

Happy March y'all!

As I type I am currently not wearing a coat. That's right you heard me. I'm now officially on strike against Winter. I am also here to tell you that while it is inconvenient for the time change to be in two weeks I welcome it with open arms so long as Spring shows.

I also promise that I will be glad for thunderstorms and even rain!

This should say something as y'all know how much I love my hair.

I am determined to have a good time in this month of green! After all, this is the month of March Madness (not that I care about basketball but I'm determined to be positive!), St. Patrick's Day, my momma's fiftieth, the Blogger Convench and last weeks of this semester!

But most importantly: SPRING IS COMING!!

What are you looking forward to this month?

Happy March and Happy Tuesday!
