Monday mumblings...regarding the Oscars.

I mumble on Mondays. It's a thing.

  • Last night's Oscar's was the spazziest I've ever seen. For real, and I've literally been watching since I was a little girl.
  • I am a tweet ho.
  • Melissa Leo's speech was AWFUL. Seriously, the "F" word is not appropriate when accepting the most prestigious award in your field.
  • Kirk Douglas was a riot.
  • Anne Hathaway can throw down. Why hasn't she won an Oscar?
  • Geoffrey Rush was robbed.
  • The President's cameo was cool, but a little inappropriate considering that we're paying out the wazoo for gas right now. I'm thinkin' he's got much bigger fish to fry.
  • I was disappointed that Banksy didn't win.
  • Billy Crystal...those were the days.
  • If I'm ever in trial while the Oscars are on, I'm totally going to DVR.
  • The white mic that Gweneth used last night is a bit much considering she's been on the music scene for all of two seconds.
  • Celine's performance of Smile was so beautiful.
  • I am not impressed with Annette Bening. Not even a little bit.
  • Loved the kids singing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." So cool.
  • I totally agree with the twitter movement that Sandra Bullock should host the Oscars next year.
  • I am a tweet ho.
  • Best dressed from last night was Mandy Moore in the Cobalt Blue dress. Look it up.
Happy Monday!

Favorites on a Friday (aka I love alliteration)

These are some things that I love about my life right now!
  • I have a clean kitchen thanks to the hubster. He was even as anal as I am when I clean. This makes my heart smile.
  • This chick and this chick are coming to my city for a blogger's convench next month. I. Can't. Wait.
  • This round of twitter/blogger babies are about to be born and I am so excited!!
  • The first chick from above is gonna be a doctor!! I am so pumped for her.
  • I will see my family in May for my seestur's graduation from my alma mater, The University of Oklahoma!! (And all the food places I get to eat that the trip entails: Speedway, Texadelphia, El Zarape, Sonic, the Mont, etc.)
  • Chipotle.
  • The Pioneer Woman. For real, if I had to pick a favorite blog of all time it would be hers. She makes me smile, brave in the kitchen and proud to be from Oklahoma.
  • Lunches with my study buddies from school. (Hi Em, Skipper and Kate!)
  • Sometimes it just hits me that I'm doing some of the last homework I'll ever do for my education! I LOVE THAT!
  • Butterscotch chips.
  • We got a sweet valentine from our nephew G. Made our heart melt.
  • Pictures of families re-uniting after a loved one has returned from serving our country overseas.
  • Phone calls from home.
What are your favorites this week?

Happy Friday!

Where I Am When I Whip My Hair...

I like Willow's Whip My Hair.

It's not a shocker/surprise at this point on my blog or twitter. I feel almost ridiculous reminding you at this point.
It should read blah blah blah Whip blah blah blah My blah blah blah Hair and you'd know that I've been listening to the song.

The truth is that I listen to it every day.

I do it when I'm briefing or outlining for school.

A couple of you have alluded to cracking up at me busting a move to it in the middle of the library. (I have no shame. One day my kids will be the ones yelling "MOM PLEASE STOP!!" )

The truth of the matter is, I am busting a move...or rather whipping my hair.

And most of the time I am sitting in the library when this happens.

My study partner and law school biffle is no longer surprised when this happens. Some of my classmates have caught me in the act when I didn't know they saw me.

I don't care. There is a video of me out in the world somewhere to the tune of Soulja Boy's Tell Em.

I tell you. I have no shame when it come to music.

But recently, while I've been very busy with school I've also been in a funk.

I blame winter.

There is only so long before my body starts drooping because of the Winter Blues.

Well for the past two weeks or so it's be been bad. REAL. BAD.

So I had to find a new study space.

In law school, there are usually the general rules and then the exceptions. So in this situation, the general rule is that I'm in the library. But the exception for the past three days for me (because it's working) has been in my closet at home.

Yes, you read that last sentence correctly.

As if you needed more evidence I'm a die hard Sooner!

Paisley has to hang with me on occasion because well...she's nosey.

She is the vainest dog I've ever met. Has to be in the picture but will not look at me.

In fact she hides while I try to get the perfect aerial shot.

Total. Brat.

So when you wonder about me whipping my hair while I'm studying, know that it's being done in my closet currently.

Hey, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do to get her homework did!

Happy Thursday y'all!

Wednesday is "Rash Decisions" Day.

Rash Decisions: choices made without a lot of thought to the effects or consequences that come later.

Ladies and gentlemen,

It has come to my attention that in the celeb world there have been some serious rash decisions made where it concerns hair.

Exhibit "A"

This is Jennifer Aniston before. Now, many a women have tried to achieve such hair glory. Many have failed. This was a look that was envied by all.

Exhibit "B"

This is Jennifer Aniston after. Now, in my opinion, girlfriend done lost her mind. Her look before was the perfect blend for her face, bone structure and skin tones.

Now before y'all get all high and mighty, there are two things you should know.

  1. After the divorce, I totally pledged allegiance to Jen. I have not seen a Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie movie since Mr. and Mrs. Smith aka the movie that started it all. Cheating on your spouse is not cool to me. So what I say I say it with the most respect, one can muster to someone they have never met.
  2. I am blonde. Not naturally, obviously, but then again those lucky dogs are few and far between these days. But because I've been blonde from a bottle for awhile (ahem 12 years) I feel as though I can speak as to what blonde looks good with what skin and what doesn't.
My theory is that she saw a hair cut she thought was cute and stopped in the nearest salon in France.

My personal rule is before you chop, get a trim.

If you walk away and two weeks later are still complaining, then do something about it next time.

And maybe, she did just that. But I gotta feeling she didn't. I base this theory on the fact that her bestie Courtney Cox is going through all kinds of crazy right now. So she wasn't there to talk her down off the ledge.

The other genius who decided to cut HIS hair is Justin Bieber.

Exhibit "C"
Photo found here
This genius claims he had to do it for work purposes. I call this a classic case of slapping the hand that feeds you.

Bieber, you're no longer baby face cute. Now you're all kinds of awkward.

Hopefully you don't spiral into loserdom.

Bottom line, these people should have called me.

Happy Wednesday.

Not so glamorous...

We have to buy car parts.

And while it breaks my daddy's heart to say this. I am not thrilled.

It got me thinking about purchases that aren't glamorous...
  • tires
  • air conditioning filter
  • dryer sheets
  • windshield wiper blades
  • toothpaste
  • socks
  • cleaning supplies
  • OTC medicine
  • window scraper/brush
  • stamps
What are some of your pet peeve non-glamorous purchases?

Happy Tuesday!

Monday's Mumblings...

I mumble on Monday mornings. It's a thing. I blame the fact that it's Monday. If you're new here, don't worry, you'll get used to it.

  • For real, my hair stylist is amazing. A week later I still can't get over how much I love my hair.
  • When my mind races, it is bad.
  • Desperate Housewives used to be good. Not so much anymore.
  • I love the Wal-Mart brand of chocolate chip granola bars. They make me happy in the morning.
  • I've added orange to our bedroom. I like it.Think I might paint something to go over our bed so it's not such a prison cell.
  •  Barbara Walters is old.
  • I had a manicure almost two weeks ago, but it was a shellack manicure and y'all it's awesome.
  • It snowed buckets here last night. It's supposed to snow again today. Naturally, my wallpaper on my computer is a beach scene.
  • Fergie was not invited to the Royal Wedding. What a scandal!
  • I got a google alert that someone basically copy and pasted my blog onto their site. To that person, maybe you should scroll yourself to the bottom to see the copyright status. Thank you very much!
  • Saturday night no one was answering their phone. It was a total leper moment for me.
  • There is a blogger convench that is happening here in my current town next month and I am so excited about it!
  • I think Emily Blunt is beautiful.
  • I stopped drinking pop last week.
  • I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I LOVE our church family.
Happy Monday!

For the love of seesturs...

I think y'all will be pleased to know that my sister talked me off the ledge of leaving the blog world. She also sent me a blog post to help take away some of the pressure of getting posts out there.

So here it is...

I am currently writing a post instead of doing homework, but hey I don’t have class on Fridays, so here I am.

My name Jessi and I am one of Sam’s younger sisters.

I am about to graduate in May and totally stoked, but some days school and all that it entails can be very overwhelming. My sister and I have had our sibling rivalries, but at the end of the day we are like two peas in a pod.

Well one day last week when I was digging myself of school, snow, and life just in general I had had enough. I sat in my car for a good five minutes just firing mad. I said a prayer, but still I needed to blow off steam and it doesn’t seem right to yell at God about my frustrations, so I called my sister.

I told her all my issues and how I didn’t want to be a nun with an education when I am old. I that I am tired of being burned by people over and over again, but yet doing all I can to be there for them, but when I need something they vanish.

She sat and just listened to what I had to say, which seemed like the only person who has done that for me. I wondered when she moved to the frozen tundra if our relationship would grow apart, because we were not able to see each other in person. I can say that it has only grown stronger. I have learned how to talk into the phone again instead of just texting. My iphone’s name is Jessi’s BFF and for good reason. She’s encouraged me to just be and never be afraid. She has taught me that if she does not know then google it and I do. If I lost my phone I would just sit down and cry! Anyways back to my story…….

I have learned that it’s okay to ball your eyes out while talking to your sister, because you feel like no one understands. I know that on the other end of the phone she probably has tears rolling down her face just as much as I do, because when I hurt she hurts to. She can also laugh with and at you for the silly ideas you come up with.

I am grateful for her just being her and for loving me for me. She understands how to give and take in a friendship. She knows when to lean and when to hold.

So even though we are many miles away from each other SHE STILL GETS ME!

I am forever grateful for God making sisters!

Love from the Sooner State,

P.S She called me the next day for her rant and that is just one of many reason we are sisters!

Teachers are important.

I don't know if you know this or not, but my mom is a 3rd grade teacher.

(My dad also has his degree in Math Education, but this fact comes to play later in the story.)

She also has been a teacher since I was a little older than a year old. She has taught several ages, but for the most part she has taught 2nd through 4th graders. She loves what she does and she also is very good at it. My mom also LOVES to see children learn. I know that doesn't seem like it should matter but it does.

In Oklahoma, teachers START at a whopping 30k a year. They also have to fight just to be paid every year too by their districts. My mom started at much less which is why my dad chose another career path.

Currently, in Wisconsin the governor wants to cut teachers and other public servants by 7%. He basically has decided to balance his budget on the shoulders of teachers.

It baffles me that people want to say that teachers have an easy job, get tons of holidays and whole summers off to enjoy.

I realize that the economy is absolutely terrible!
I realize that cuts are going to be made. We have to pay for the out of control spending at some point.

BUT REALLY??? Our only option is to cut the very people who protect us, teach us and serve us every day. And then people want to act like it's okay because teachers make an "average wage" so why should they complain?

Are these people for real? They can't be.

These are also the people who complain about the Unions that protect public school teachers. Why isn't the public protecting them?

And they are also the people who work in the private sector who complain about paying taxes for public services.

Well, those people have a choice as to where they work just like the public school teachers. Each world, private and public come with benefits and detriments that must be carefully weighed before taking a job. I know that everyone and I mean EVERYONE is very thankful to have the job they do these days.

But change is possible.

It happens every day.

The thing is, this cut that the teachers are facing isn't the first one they've faced. They have suffered cut after cut each year. The only reason Fox News cares about this story now is because the right "buzz word" that they don't particularly like (unions) is involved.

PLUS, each person faces pros and cons in whatever job they choose. I don't want to sound calloused when I say that especially in the economy we face. It's just the truth.

If we can't pay the teachers a better salary that they deserve, then why is it a problem that they receive benefits like retirement to make it worth their while?

There are SEVERAL programs that could use a serious cut.

I understand that in the end, a cut is something that will have to happen. What I don't understand is why it happens to always be the first place legislatures go when looking to solve their problems.

Especially when they wouldn't be in the job they have without them.

Happy Thursday y'all.

Wednesday is "Getting By" Day.

Getting By: skating by; doing enough to say I'm doing something

As you can tell, I'm not exactly full of funny stories on the blog these days. I'd like to say there is a good reason for it, other than law school, but there is not.

Don't get me wrong, law school is a VERY good reason. Sometimes I don't think people realize how serious of a commitment it is in the blog world. There are very few doctorate students in the blog world and there are reasons for that. The biggest one being is lack of time. It is a huge deal to get one's doctorate. Most of the people who are going for their doctorate have thought about nothing else for awhile.

When others were dreaming about being moms (which by the way is a large population in the blog world), we were dreaming about being in courtrooms and offices and classrooms and operating rooms.

I want to be a mom. In fact, it is one of the things that pushes me through school because when I'm finished I get to get started on that process.

And it also doesn't mean that I'm not rooting for all the moms in the blog world. In fact, I'm really starting to get very excited for y'all. This is your dream coming true. One of the best experiences that we as women get to experience is the miracle of childbirth.

BUT, law school for me is my dream coming true. It is something that I've wanted from a very young age.

So when people in the blog world don't get excited for a doctorate student (ME!!) in the same way that I get excited for them about their babies, it hurts.

Plain and simple. It's about the Golden Rule.

I may step on toes for saying all of this, but it's true.

I've been meaning to talk about this for awhile. There is just no easy way to say it.

Getting a doctorate takes a ton of commitment just like having a family does.

And when it gets pushed to the side, I just can't help it.

My feelings get hurt so much so I've considered walking away from this place.

That should say something major because I love the blog world and the people in it.

So if I am just getting by in the blog world for a bit, y'all know why.

I promise I have quite a few stories to tell...just not a lot of time to do it right now.

Happy Wednesday.

Dear Winter,

I'm over you.

I like the snow. It's pretty, but it's time for you to mosey along.

I know I live in Michigan and I realize that this might be a bit of a tall order and even a step on your ego. But trust, that I mean no disrespect.

I'm just done with you.

You're great at Thanksgiving and definitely at Christmas, even at New Year's I still love you.

But after Valentine's Day. I'm out. And seeing as today is the day, I'm right on schedule it seems.

Plus didn't you hear Punxsutawney Phil made the great decree that you're on your way out early this year.

So why don't you do us all a favor and split early?

I mean Jack Frost isn't glamorous. He's just not.

The glamor happens in the summertime and part of fall.

I know it.
Flip-flops, sunglasses and sunshine know it.
Baseball and college football know it.
Rocking out in the car to Classic Rock knows it.
The 4th of July knows it.
Swimming in pools knows it.

So would you please do us a solid and move it along already??

My toes are dyin' for a pedicure.

Monday's Mumblings...Valentine's Day Special.

Normally, I mumble on Mondays. And I promise I won't disappoint today.

I made it to the salon the other day. I feel like a real person again.

And I am happy to say that I have found a stylist that is going to be great while we're here.

My family got us a TomTom for Valentine's Day! How cool is that? Her name is Taralynn.

Paisley is STILL a photo snob.

I am obsessed with the Scentsy scent "Inner Peace". Seriously, I love its fresh smell. Makes me happy.

I now am part of the cool world. I have a certain kind of phone that is associated with a certain kind of fruit.  It is our Valentine/Christmas/birthday gift to each other.

I'm serious about getting on the fit train this week. I've got lots of big events coming up in my life.

My law school biffle and our honeys took us out on Saturday night to Texas Roadhouse. For about two seconds I felt like I was in the South and it was perfect.

I hope y'all have a great Valentine's Day.

And to my momma, I know this is your favorite holiday, I love you and hope Dad made your day great because you totally love it. And of course, I miss you.

Wednesday is "Catch-Up" Day.

Catch-up: time used to get caught up on life

This week has been crazy for me. It seems that I am behind everywhere and in everything I do minus school.

I will most likely not get to watch any of my shows from this week until tomorrow night...INCLUDING THE EXTRA EPISODE OF GLEE!!

I need to buy groceries.

I need to clean my house.

I'm also behind on the blog.

I promise that I'll get better with this after this weekend. But for now...toodles!

Happy Wednesday!!

Monday mumblings...

I mumble on Mondays. It's a thing. You get used to it.
  • We are getting new phones soon and I am uber pumped!
  • Why is it when I get close to getting a manicure it is then that my nails make me crazy and I clip them extra short??? Does anyone else struggle with this issue?
  • Getting started on doing homework is the hard part these days, but once I'm started I'm golden.
  • GOD BLESS THE RETURN OF GLEE. Seriously, I think it was the best episode in a long time.
  • I work better in the mornings.
  • I also work better with a good playlist.
  • I know I've said this a lot, but Whip My Hair by Willow is my latest and favorite obsession these days. Plus she is just so stinkin' cute!
  • My law school bff is better than your law school bff.
  • God provides!
  • I had a dream that I was preggo and I woke up in a sweat with tears on my face and grabbed for my belly to make sure it wasn't true. I know that sounds awful but it is not a place that we're at in our lives right now.
  • Your mom goes to college.
Happy Monday!!

Let's talk this week's celeb gossip shall we?
  • Thankfully Grey's and Private Practice are back on.

  • I am obsessed with Willow's Whip My Hair. I admit it freely.
  • Can Cory and Leah get married already on Teen Mom 2?
  • ANyone watch Harry's Law? I definitely like it.
  • Saw The King's Speech. It was amazing. Seriously.
  • Also saw Red and Secretariat. Both great movies as well.

    Wednesday is "Punxsutawney Phil" Day.

Punxsutawney Phil: the groundhog that determines whether we have 6 more weeks of winter or not on Groundhog Day.

Well thank goodness that stinkin' groundhog didn't see his shadow because I for one am over this snow.
Momma loves the stuff. But I personally have had enough. My paws get too cold when I go outside to potty and I don't appreciate it. Momma says I better get over myself because the snow will be here for awhile.

    Hmph. What does she know?

We took lots of pictures last night's festivities.
We already had that white stuff on the ground. It wasn't like we were hurtin' for this much more.

It snowed like this all night.

And then suddenly the sidewalk was gone. I may have pottied in the middle of the sidewalk, but how could ya tell?

It was spittin' white stuff so fast it was covered up the next time we went outside.

I heard people a cussin' outside this morning and we saw this. I think I'd cuss if I had to pick up all the white stuff too!

Then momma threw some at me.

And I was more than happy to keep my view back inside away from all of that white stuff.

Hope this finds you well and dry and glad that Phil didn't see his shadow.
    Because I've had enough.
    Love, Paisley

    Happy February!!

Unless you live under a rock, you know that there is a big storm covering several states in the US right now.

I being the smartly and current quasi-resident of Michigan that I am have a few thoughts on the situation.

    • Why now are people rushing to the store? It’s been snowing since November. There is still snow on the ground in fact here in Michigan. And for those in Oklahoma, get some things to last through a few days to a week. NOT a month. There are other people beside you.
    • Why such disgust for the winter weather? Yes, it slows life down and makes it harder to get around but there is nothing any of us can do about it. Get ready to grin and bear it. Stop being so cranky over something like snow. Plus we actually live in a state that allocates money for situations like this. If you live a state that doesn’t do this, I’m sorry. I promise it does make a difference. And if you really have nothing to complain about but snow your life is pretty stinking great.
    • The snow that is falling on us has already fallen on my home state. That just makes me smile.
    • News People, we get it’s snowing. It’s freaking Michigan after all!! So it is not necessary for you to cut into shows to tell us yet again that we can expect a foot of snow. We’re aware. I don’t need the same report ten times in a 30 minute news report. Find another news story like say the one going on in Egypt.Christian Amanpour does a damn fine job of reporting this story up front.
    • Also, when it snows, be respectful of those who don’t get to enjoy the advantages of being at home.
    • I would like to speak with the person who sends the email or makes the phone call that tells all the crazies who come out in conditions like this. They have been in this business for a long time and obviously it is time for a change in management.
    • I will bet money that in addition to the current baby boom that is going on, there will be another because of this storm. I mean think about it. People are home with nothing to do. Baby-making is bound to happen especially if the power goes out! Men will use the “But we gotta stay warm excuse!” EVERY. TIME.
    • Why do I always have a hankering for ribs cooked on the grill in the middle of snowstorms? I’ve never figured this one out, but I do.
    • If you don’t feel comfortable driving, then for the love DON’T!!
    • If you do get out and happen to be in the neighborhood, catch a ride with my parents. It’s a riot. My dad insists on driving my mom and siblings around even though they’ve already been to the store twice. The road trip is still worth every minute though.
    • Take pictures. The world is a magical place when it snows. Everything gets quiet and peaceful.
    • Take serious advantage of the napping potential this storm holds. Snuggle up with your best blanket, grab your favorite French Bulldog and get to snoozin’!
Hope this finds you well and I am SNOW happy that it's February!!
