Monday mumblings...

I mumble on's a thing. And with finals approaching it's getting worse.

My family arrived and departed early in the morning. I miss them TONS.
I need good motivation movies and music recommendations. Give me your best.

In college, I always called my mom the week before finals to tell her I loved her and that I'd talk to her "on the other side" of finals. I made that call tonight. So crazy how things have changed and what my attitude in undergrad was to what my attitude for law school is.
Winter is here. And it is really cold. But no snow yet.
We're playing in the Big XII Championship! WOOT! It's a shot at a TRUE rivalry one last time before Nebraska peaces out to the Big Ten.
Finals are quickly approaching. Did I mention that one?
Sometimes, I wish we'd all put ourselves in each others shoes before we speak.
Have I said how proud I am not only of the Sooner Football team for their win against Oklahoma State, but how I am even more proud to be an alumni of the great university??? Well I am! (Tee hee, like you didn't know this already.)
My poor planner is already falling apart and I haven't even made it through the semester!
I need some more yellow highlighters. I feel like this is the law student's version of the "more cowbell" statement.
November has done come and gone y'all! You know what that means? Christmas is upon us soon!

Wednesday is "No Hitter" Day.

No hitter-a baseball term for a game in which one side fails to make a hit, first attested 1948;

In baseball, when a pitcher has a no-hitter going on, no one talks about it. Typically it doesn't become apparent what is transpiring until the 4th or 5th inning. It is only then that suddenly it becomes real that this athletic feat might become a reality.

And then when people think you might have a chance at this miracle of miracles, the tension mounts. 

With every pitch, the amount of sucking in breaths heightens.

When another hitless inning occurs, fans glance at each other.

They realize without a word the magnitude of what they might witness.

It is the ultimate elephant in the room.

This situation is analogous to my hair situation.

Yes, I went there. I don't even know why half of you are surprised.

About a week ago, I realized that if I was ever going to find a good hairdresser that I had to go the mattresses to do it. (Going to the mattresses by the way, means going to war in Godfather terms for those of you who live under a rock.)

I had to infiltrate how the best pitchers or haircuts came to be.

So I went straight to the source, the common college girl. It is no secret that when in college, girls are at their most experimental of phases with their hair because they view it as the last time they can be. I know. I used to be that college girl.

I sought out one of my classmates that went to U of M for undergrad and she sent me to the salon of choice.

Then I did the next phase of a no-hitter. I made sure that the girl I was going to knew what she was talking about like another no-hitter pitcher would. I made sure she could talk shop. I call it shooting the bull.

And lastly, I took on the roll of the fan. Now, no matter what team you root for, when you're in the middle of a no-hitter situation, you keep your comments to yourself. This has only happened 269 times in Major League Baseball. So because my hair was on the line, I didn't mention it on twitter or here no matter how much I wanted to gab about my nerves. This was serious business.

And y'all!!!!!!!!!!!

It totally worked!!

I have found a new hairstylist!!

Maybe a you know what that serves you know what kind of ice in their fabulous you know what kind of cups in my neck of the woods isn't too far behind after all!

Monday mumblings...

I mumble on Mondays. You get used to it.

My hair is getting long.
Does anyone know when the Tour of Homes is for showing decorations for Christmas?
Sarah Palin has some pretty hippiesque names for her kids for being so conservative.
"The Big Chill" has one of the best soundtracks of all time.
Brandon was off yesterday and we had the best day together. Sometimes ya just need a lazy Sunday.
A manicure would be great.
I only have to wake up two more times until I see my side of the family.
When studying, I have to have quiet for reading but can totally do music when I brief or outline.
I feel bad for people who feel the need to perform. Just be who you are.
Wish I knew how to french-braid.
A month from today will be our 3rd wedding anniversary. SO CRAZY!
My doggy needs a buddy, otherwise, she's gonna be past the point of ruin soon.
Think I might do a post about hair soon.

This week just gets better and better!

This week has been absolutely wonderful.

Tuesday was a hot day for sure.

First, my bloggy pal, Brittany announced that she too is a part of the Baby Blogger Boom of 2010. I am so happy for her because I love it when people get their dreams in life.

Then, Apple announced that the long and winding road of wait is over! The ENTIRE Beatles catalog is now available on iTunes!

And speaking of waiting being over, the House of Windsor made the royal announcement that Prince William had proposed marriage to Kate Middleton back in October. You better believe that I’ll be up all night long watching this wedding just like my momma did three decades ago when his parents were married.

I can’t wait!!

I will miss school that’s how committed to the cause I am.

If you follow me on twitter, you also know that Brandon got a new job! We’re thrilled and I will blog at a separate time about that journey later.

The blitz continues tomorrow as Oprah has her famous Oprah’s Favorite Things episode. I always love watching this.

And seriously, if you don’t know by now that Harry Potter is coming out tomorrow, then you live under a rock.

So it’s been quite a week in the celeb junkie’s world so to speak.

And that got me thinking about how my self-proclaimed career as a celebrity junkie began.

It has to do with the Royals which answers Brandon’s question of why I’m always glued when a story runs about them. I didn’t put it together that this is how my career began until Tuesday when the news of Wills and Kate’s engagement broke.

The reason I am always hooked when it comes to the Royal Family is that it was my first exposure to the celebrity world.

I found out about Princess Di’s death while I was at a car show with my family. I remember being in an elevator with some Brits. We were talking about the medical terminology that they had used to describe her condition. They called it “serious” which in American English meant that her injuries were bad, but she had the potential to overcome them. However, in British English, “serious” was the American equivalent of “critical” meaning it was very bad. And of course, as you know Princess Di passed.

My mom and I stayed up late and watched the events. While they were talking about Princess Di, they talked about the American equivalent Jackie Kennedy Onassis.

And so began my love affair with the Royals, the Kennedys and the price of fame.

Isn’t it interesting how loves or passions begin?

Wednesday is "Review" Day.

Review: the process of going over a subject again in study or recitation in order to fix it in the memory or summarize the facts.

Ahem. School is a bit wild this week. You see if for some reason you don't have class due to a holiday, you have to make up your classes.

Add in a certain famous film premiere this week and you know that my mind is about as stretched as it gets.

So in light of the circumstances, I've taken the day to review the facts for Harry Potter 7.1 this Friday. I'm already watching the movies to help since I can't read the books.

So sorry, this post isn't any longer. I know lots of you like them.

But priorities are priorities.

And this week my top ones include school and Harry Potter.

My bloggy friends are better than your bloggy friends.

I know y'all think you have the best bloggy friends ever. Blah. Blah. Blah.

But do your bloggy friends ship pumpkin pie to you?

Yeah I didn't think so.

Sit back and let me show you how best bloggy friends are really done.

About a month ago, I started day dreaming about pumpkin and pecan pie because I try to move right along past Halloween. And b.e.g. mentioned she needed to practice her pumpkin pies. I had no problem practicing the eating portion of the trial run.

A couple weeks passed and I realized that I hadn't really heard anymore about it. I mentioned it to her.

Girlfriend quickly put me in my place long enough to say she hadn't forgot about me.

And on Friday I got a text asking if I'd ship her pie pan back. I was like...okay. Not really thinking she was serious because I was studying. When I study I don't really have a brain for things outside the law.

Then I got home and saw I had another text to check my mail at noon on Saturday.

Okay. No big deal b/c grad student brain is kinda like preggo person brain. We tend to forget things.

I went and got my hair did and then came home and y'all, there was a pumpkin pie on my doorstep all the way from New England!

I'd show you a picture, but we've kinda devoured it already.

So, the next time you hear some chick blabbing on and on about how her bloggy girls are the best, you just look at 'em and say, "Oh yeah, well, there's this blogger in Michigan who has you beat. Hers send the best pumpkin pie this side of the Mississippi and that ain't no joke!"

Monday mumblings...

I mumble on Mondays. You get used to it after awhile.

I love cooking for my husband.
My dog is rotten.
Sometimes, I think school sucks all of my thinking abilities out of me.
Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming.
I watched a couple of chick-flicks this past weekend.The fluff was nice.
Officially I can say that I will see my family next week!!
I may or may not have eaten a pizza by myself last night.
School gets harder and yet better every day.
Harry Potter 4 is my favorite book. Harry Potter 5 is my favorite movie as of now.
Pumpkin pie is really really great!!

Random Rosy on Thursday.

  1. The Power of Prayer is amazing, wonderful, flooring, mind-boggling and so much more. I prayed at the beginning of this week for God to encourage me in my studies and specifically to keep my drive going. I have received encouragement every day this week so far. God is so good.
  2. I want a recliner so I can have my back supported while I work on homework while watching tv. 
  3. I am going to see my family in LESS than 2 weeks. 
  4. The amount of twitter messages I get sometimes is obnoxious. 
  5. I still need guest posters for December. PLEASE!!!
  6. I have a hair appointment on Saturday. GOD. BLESS. AMERICA.
  7. The closer we get to the end of the semester the harder it is for me to comment. I'm sorry for this really I am because I hate not getting comments. I still read though!
  8. I pack a good lunch. 
  9. I am well more than obsessed with checking off items completed on my to do list. 
  10. I have started 9 sentences with the word, "I" and now I can't decide if I should finish with ten random things or ten sentences that start with the word "I". OCD is a problem.
  11. I still need guest posters for December.

    Wednesday is "Intervention" Day.

    Intervention: a coming together when a problem arises that needs sudden attention

    It has come to my attention in the past week that a few people in my life needed some intervention.

    Intervention #1: Vera Bradley
    Last week I was sitting in a review for a class and we were on a break when I decided to peruse the latest from Vera Bradley. Now if you're new to the rTh times, then you need to read this post. My love for Vera runs deep. Unfortunately, I can't sport a Vera backpack to school because those law books are just a little too big. But that's another story for another day. My study buddy was sitting beside me in the review and I said something about Vera.

    She said..."Vera WHAT? What is that?"

    I about "come undone" as my daddy would say. 

    I managed to pull myself together and sent her the link IMMEDIATELY. She said something about it getting her in trouble and I told her "Oh no honey, this isn't trouble. This is a lifestyle."

    I think she kinda rolled her eyes at the crazy girl from Oklahoma, but she looked. And I think she might even like!

    Hook. Line. And. Sinker!

    Intervention complete.

    Intervention # 2: Chicken Gizzards

    Saturday night, we went to some new pals of ours for dinner and while there we were watching the Arkansas/South Carolina game. (Yes, I watch football besides Sooner football.)

    ANYWAY...they showed a local restaurant that made fried catfish, fried chicken and fried chicken gizzards and livers. Now, I know we live above the Mason-Dixon line so our affinity for all things fried isn't exactly appreciated, but I didn't realize how much the people of the North didn't know about what you can fry and what you can't fry.

    Chicken gizzards can be fried.

    They are actually wonderful.

    In addition to Sonic, Michigan is in dire need of a Chicken Express. They make good UN-sweet tea so they'd be okay with the tea aspect, but also, they are in dire need of exposure to real and good fried food.

    As of now, they pretty much think of it as a novelty, almost like fair food.

    Needless to say, the next time they visit we're having chicken fried steak because they didn't know what THAT was either.

    Intervention #3: Hobby Lobby

    Last week, brown eyed girl blogged about needing inspiration for Thanksgiving. I told her to run to the nearest Hobby Lobby. Well bless b.e.g.'s heart she doesn't know what that is. So I did a little research and that's because it hasn't made it to the Eastern Seaborg save Maryland!! So honey, you know what that means???

    I need to come your way because B's never been there. But you need to come my way so I can help you with your Hobby Lobby needs and revolution. MMMkay???

    Fanning the flame...

    I'm trying to contain myself with my excitement about the Christmas season approaching, really I am.

    But when you have places like Shutterfly fanning the flame, it kinda makes it hard to resist the cries of Christmas cheer and Holiday-who-be-whattie?...Know what I'm sayin?

    I woke up ready for the snow because y’all I have the best Christmas card idea and it includes color coordination and all!

    B and I bought new puffy coats from Old Navy and somehow we both wanted blue coats.

    It was kinda weird, but long story short, we now have them. And guess who has a puppy who sports a blue snuggie thanks to her MeMe in Oklahoma? Yep, you guessed it. Her royal highness Paisley.

    So that means we have our outfits. Jeans and whatever shirt with our pretty coats.

    I just need snow to make the backdrop just right. Because after all, what’s a Michigan Christmas without snow??? After that little issue is taken care of, (You listening up there Big Guy?) all we have to worry about this year’s pose is DUN DUN DUN…MY HAIR!!!

    Don’t worry, this issue too shall pass.

    But won’t these options be great for the picture?

    Tuesday high/low

    High: Christmas break is five weeks away.
    Low: Christmas break is five weeks away.

    High: Christmas commercials, movies and smells are trickling their way into the world again.
    Low: My radio is still broken and so I can't hear all the fun songs on the radio.

    High: Thanksgiving isn't far away!!
    Low: I'm not gonna get a lot of sleep until then.

    High: B has another interview this week. We'll let you know how it goes.

    Monday mumblings...

    I mumble on Mondays. It's a thing.

    • I already have my schedule for next semester and I have a serious urge to just sit and color coordinate. 
    • I am still stressed about school. I have a thousand and one things to learn and commit to memory. It will all work out. Just gotta take one thing at a time. 
    • Have I mentioned that I'm so glad that Christmas break is so close? 
    • I love reading about the Royal Family. There's just something about their deep tradition. I think it's why I like the name Henry so much.
    • A hair appointment is in the works.
    • I still need people to guest post during the month of December especially during the first two full weeks. PLEASE. HELP.
    • Speaking of holiday cheer, I am getting the itch big time to decorate. I doubt we make it until after Thanksgiving. Plus, it just makes sense because I will have a little bit of time to do it then.
    • Time change sucks. Doesn't matter if it's fall back, spring forward or in my situation changing from CST to EST. It's a pain in the derrier.

    The only way I know how to describe school is this...

    Lately, I feel like I'm playing softball and I have hit this really great hit, but I can't see where it's gone and I have these different people telling me that the rules I used to play by no longer count and I listen to them.These new rules are beginning to creep their way into everything I do. Just about the time I figure out the rules, there's this whole other mess of exceptions that I have to learn. And if I don't let those rules creep in, then I'll never make it home to find out if I hit a home run or not.

    And y'all know how much I love to win....

    Brandon is working and he likes it so far. He works lots of hours. He is happy to be back to work. We're always trying to be thankful for what we've been given which always happens to be what we need.

    But it's hard.

    Because we can't just go out and do. Part of it has to do with the fact that my school schedule and Brandon's schedule doesn't allow for it.

    The other part is that we just can't afford it.

    So please pray for my heart to be content with where we are because it's really hard for me lately.

    Today I am thankful for God because he provides.

    Everything has worked out in HIS time. He has provided for all of our NEEDS.

    I knew He would, it just gets murky sometimes when you're in the thick of it.

    But I just wanted to let you know that God has provided for us. I wanted to make sure that HE got the credit on this lovely Wednesday.

    • Wal-Mart has this site to store option where you can get your order together and then just go pick it up without having to deal with people inside? I know this because of B's new job. Pretty cool huh?
    • the women of our era with big voices are part of the baby boom? Yep, Celine had her twins and Mariah and Beyonce have buns in their respective ovens. EVERYONE is preggo!
    • I haven't had a Sonic drink 94 days as of today??? Yeah.
    • Paisley has been great and then B got a job and she's a holy terror again. She's back to eating panties and having accidents in the house. It's sooooooooo irritating!
    • when we meet people who have family in Oklahoma or they're originally from Oklahoma they've all been from Nowata? This is so random too.

    I mumble on Mondays. It's a thing.

    • I think Diane Keaton is a wonderful actress. So is Meryl Streep. 
    • I'm trying to decide when I should decorate for Christmas. It'll have to be during Thanksgiving Break. 
    • We give our dog plenty of water every day and yet she sticks her tongue out over and over again like we don't. Then yesterday while she was dozing I saw her doing it and realized it's like her version of sucking her thumb. 
    • I need a highlight...AGAIN. I don't even want to talk about this because it's so damn depressing.
    • I can handle it when my husband snores. I can just move him. I can't handle it when my dog does. 
    • The Three Amigos is a funny movie. 
    • I want some tye-dye shirts. 
    • People crack up at me in class when I say "bless your heart".
    • I like the Bridget Jones movies.
