A Decade to Remember

Everyone has been posting their year in review, but I think it's much more entertaining to talk about the past decade.

In The Year 2000...
  • I turned 16, entered high school, and started driving a Camaro.
  • Everyone was making a big deal about the beginning of the millennium. My mom didn't freak out, instead she bought a set of bowls with Y2k all over them. I think she got rid of them last year.
  • The Sooners won the National Championship. They beat the Florida State Seminoles.
  • I got my heart broken for the first time.
  • I wanted to be a doctor for a professional sports team.
  • I had more guy friends than I did girl friends.
  • Al Gore won the election, but George Bush was the President.
  • Country Grammar by Nelly was seriously overplayed.
In the year 2001...
  • I ran my car into a ditch.
  • 5 kids in my class were in a car crash. 4 were killed. The survivor lost her twin.
  • 9/11 happened.
  • My best friend decided that I wasn't putting as much into our friendship as she was. My friends that were girls began to dwindle to a few.
  • Rocky Calmus won the Dick Butkis award.
  • The guy that broke my heart convinced me to be "friends with benefits" with him. Yes, I know just how ridiculous and stupid that was of me.
  • I paged at the State Capitol. We had a mock legislature. I decided I wanted to be in public service.
  • I knew I wanted to be a political science major and be an attorney one day.
  • Follow Me by Uncle Kracker was a popular song that year.
In the year 2002...
  • I went to Boston for a summer mission trip.
  • I started my senior year in high school.
  • I was the football sweetheart in Homecoming Court.
  • I was accepted to the University of Oklahoma, Stephens College, and Trinity University.
  • Got chewed out on my birthday by a girl who to this day I will walk the other direction when I see her.
  • I had one good girlfriend and a great bunch of guy friends. These guys taught me about football, friendship, and what a good guy should look like.
  • Found out that the one good girlfriend couldn't believe that I received the President's Leadership Class scholarship. Never confronted her about it.
  • Avril Lavigne had a song called Complicated that was popular then too.
In the year 2003...
  • We went into Iraq because George W. thought there were weapons of mass destruction.
  • I graduated high school.
  • Swore I'd never return to Small Town, Oklahoma to live. EVER. AGAIN.
  • Started OU as a political science major.
  • Started going to the gym regularly.
  • Pledged Phi Lamb for the first time.
  • Went to my first frat party on campus.
  • Jason White won the Heisman trophy.
  • Met some great girls on my freshman dorm hall.
  • Get Low by Lil John and The Eastside Boyz featuring the Ying Yang Twins was overplayed as well, but we still listened every time it came on the radio.
In the year 2004...
  • Lost a total of 40 pounds.
  • In the spring, every Friday went to lunch with my guy friends from high school that went to OU. We also went out to dinner for everyone's birthday.
  • Grew out my hair.
  • Had my first panic attack.
  • Pledged Phi Lamb for the second time. Became a member.
  • Adrian "All Day" Peterson made his debut at OU.
  • Got a chi.
  • George W. got his second term. This was my first time to vote in an election. No, I did not vote for him.
  • Hoobastank's, The Reason was a favorite song of mine.
In the year 2005...
  • Became Chaplain of Phi Lamb.
  • Met my future husband.
  • Spent my 21st birthday in Vegas. It was the first time Brandon flew on an airplane.
  • Oklahoma wins the Holiday Bowl.
  • Chief Justice William Rehnquist died.
  • Met my best friends, Emily and Katherine. These two girls really taught me about sisterhood and friendship.
  • Got engaged at Christmas.
  • Gold Digger by Jamie Foxx and Kanye West was my favorite song.
In the year 2006...
  • Brandon started at OU.
  • Jessi started college at OU.
  • Jessi pledged Phi Lamb. Brandon pledged Beta Upsilon Chi.
  • I began my first year of my year and a half as a senior at OU.
  • OU won the Big XII Championship for the fourth year in a row.
  • At mid-term elections, the Democrats took control of both houses.
  • Chasing Cars by SnowPatrol was my favorite song.
  • We set a date for our wedding.
In the year 2007...
  • PLBD was founded.
  • I graduated college.
  • Got married a week later.
  • Returned to Small Town, Oklahoma so my husband could attend college and because I had a good job waiting for me.
  • Moved into our first little shack of love.
  • Brandon and I went to the first of many OU/Texas weekends together.
  • Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton announce their candidacy for the American Presidency so did John McCain and Mitt Romney.

  • Sam Bradford won the Heisman.
  • We celebrated our first anniversary and bought our first car together.
  • Viva la Vida by Coldplay was the number one song this last year.
In the year 2009...
  • In the spring, I didn't get into law school.
  • We went to Iowa to see my family.
  • Senator Edward Moore Kennedy died.
  • I met some great girls through blogging.
  • We celebrated two years of marriage.
  • We got our first puppy, Paisley, together.
  • I got into law school.
  • Poker Face by Lady Gaga was a popular song this year.

I ain't sayin' she's a gold digger...but she ain't messin' with no... Yeah...I KILLED that song. We played it CONSTANTLY while we played beer pong. I'll still if I hear it on the radio tho. The more things change, the more they stay the same!

I loved this post, thank you for sharing so much! And seriously, my questions are all about what you posted - the girl who chewed you out, the boy who broke your heart, the courtship and marriage, and everything in-between, I'd like to hear them elaborated upon!

Happy New Year! xoxo
