Wednesday is "Off" Day

Off: To be weird, off center, not normal.
(Good one, Urban Dictionary. Good one.)

In the past few days, I've been off of my game...the game of life that is. I was sick on Monday and missed work. When I miss work, things don't go the best for me for the rest of the week.

But I've also been off in other areas of my life, especially today. I had trouble remembering my memory verses. Committing dates, facts, random movie trivia and scripture are not things that are hard for me.

For example, Saturday was JFK and Jackie Kennedy's wedding anniversary. Jay Leno is now on at 9pm. Christmas Vacation is the only National Lampoon's movie to not feature the "Holiday Road" throughout the movie.

I know the fact that I know this crap and think it is important for others to know is ridiculous.

But today, I seriously was struggling when it came to working on my scripture memory.

However, it wasn't like this was a sheer coincidence that I was off.

I wasn't into my bible study at all this week. So because my bible study and more importantly my relationship with God weren't important, my scripture memory was hard to achieve.

I'd like to tell you that this is something that rarely happens, but that would be a lie.

I struggle with this regularly. THANKFULLY, one of the lessons that I've taken away from this bible study so far is that 1) I should treat my time like I was meeting someone very famous in history. (Which of course as you know would be a Kennedy...not sure which one today, but you get my point!) But seriously if I had the opportunity to meet with John Kennedy, I would make sure I was "on" my game and dressed appropriately.

After all I am meeting with JOHN. FITZGERALD. KENNEDY.

This is exactly how I should be ready to meet with God every day. But I'm not.

I have to pray that God meets me where I am and to quiet me down so I can hear him. But it is extremely hard some days to shut the world off so I can meet with him. So I have to pray about what it is on my mind so I get it out there so I won't think about it anymore.

This can be really taxing.

But the second lesson that I've taken from this bible study is to keep going at it even on my worst days. Because later a lesson that I didn't hear completely will be revealed to me when I need it. God is not just any old teacher after all, He is THE teacher.

So while, I may have been off on my scripture memory today, I am glad for the lesson to be learned from the situation I am in now.

And by the way...

Luke 9:23 "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily and follow me."

John 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit. Apart from me, you can do NOTHING."

John 8:31-32 "If you hold to my teaching you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free."

John 15:7 "If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be given you."

And finally the trouble maker...

John 13:34-35 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

Poop. I had to check it.

Wonder what this lesson is going to be.

P.S. I've learned more than 2 things from this bible study. These two just seem to be a reoccurring tap dance routine.
