Wednesday is "Unspoken Rules" Day

This week, I thought I’d change things up and make my own definition, because I’m cool like that. And for the sake of arguing, let’s say that this definition applies to married couples.

Unspoken rules: The unspoken law that develops during one’s relationship, while it is amendable to change; change doesn’t necessarily happen.

When Brandon and I attended marriage counseling before we were married, our counselor/music minister from the church told us some very true words. “This next year you’ll create habits and rules of sort that define how the relationship goes. Some will eventually be spoken while others just sort of happen.”

If we only knew how true his words would become. Tonight, I have decided to list a few rules that have “happened” over the past year and a half of our marriage.

1. The last person in bed is responsible for turning off the light in the bedroom. This is extremely important when one member of the family is afraid of the dark.
2. Brandon does the dishes. If you want more information on how I completed this feat, email me. If you just want the short version, act like the dirty dishes don’t exist.
3. Now, that being said, don’t think I’m a messy person. This is where rule 3 exists. The Samantha in the relationship is a little OCD. And when someone doesn’t pick up after themselves as they go like a normal person, the Samantha goes a little crazy and she might blow up, but only a little. This blow up can be avoided if one picks up after himself on a regular basis.
4. Brandon also does the laundry. I know, I should write a book, I’m so dang good. I fold the clothes, but he puts them through the washer and dryer.
5. If the man should slip and say that the woman doesn’t do the dishes or the laundry process, the wife is entitled to deny. She also might be entitled to punishing said husband later.

Happy Wednesday.

And on a much much more serious note…

Rest in Peace Senator Edward Moore Kennedy. You and your family’s contribution to the United States will not be forgotten. We should all be so blessed to experience another family like the Kennedys in politics again someday. And yes, I’ll be watching the funeral mass on Saturday. I choked up a little when I found out this morning. I really can’t believe he is gone. It is definitely the end of an era. With all the bad in his life, he made so many strides for so many Americans in so many arenas.

It is inspiring to think of what one person can do to make change for the better in SO MANY others lives. I hope that my impact in public service is like that.

“To whom much is given, much is required.” his mother's motto that meant so much to him

"My brother need not be idealized, or enlarged in death beyond what he was in life; to be remembered simply as a good and decent man, who saw wrong and tried to right it, saw suffering and tried to heal it, saw war and tried to stop it. Those of us who loved him and who take him to his rest today, pray that what he was to us, and what he wished for others will some day come to pass for all the world. As he said many times, in many parts of this nation, to those he touched and who sought to touch him: 'Some men see things as they are and say why. I dream things that never were and say why not.'" -eulogizing his brother Bobby

"For me, a few hours ago, this campaign came to an end. For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die." -the end of his 1980 presidential campaign

And oh yeah, tell Bobby and Jack hello for me.

I may need you to write a manual for me on this laundry and dishes thing.

I would rather put the laundry through the washer and dryer than fold and hang! I hate it! TJ does that part.

Hi y'all! The name's Samantha. You can call me Sam if you like. I am a lover to a boy I met at Falls Creek in the summer of 2005, that is a student of Jesus, a Sooner born and Sooner bred and when I die I'll be Sooner dead, Democrat by party, blonde to the core, and oldies but goodies kind of girl.
